I'm going to be building a new desktop in a couple weeks and I think I have the final parts list ready to go. I just wanted to get some opinions on what I've chosen and/or anything I've missed. I am NOT interested in an SSD drive for personal reasons but I might overclock at some point. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

The list:

MSI Z77A-G45 motherboard

Core i7-3770k @ 3.50GHz

16 GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz

GTX 560 2 GB GDDR5 video card

Western Digital 1 TB HDD

Thermaltake 600W Power Supply

Thermaltake Overseer full tower ATX case

Total price including misc other parts (fans etc) and shipping is $1225 USD. As stated earlier, feedback is greatly appreciated.

For these items, you really have only given general specs. There are lots of GTX 560s out there with 2GB of VRAM. Some are better choices than others. The same for the other items, for instance, if that is your only drive then you want a faster drive and WD makes a range of 1TB drives.

I won't go into the PSU possibilities as I don't know the Thermaltake line, just get a Gold rated unit @ 750w instead of the 600w and I will be happy. ;)

For clarity, is that a GTX 560 or GTX 560Ti?

GTX 560 Superclocked is what the product page said.

If the price difference isn't too much, I'd recommend looking for a 660Ti.

a 750W power supply, Gold rated or otherwise, is simply out of my price range. I chose that particular one because it is similar to the one I have in my current desktop and I have had zero issues with it. The WD hard drive is a 6 GB/s SATA drive so I can't see myself needing much more w/o going to a SSD which I already said I wasn't interested in.

The thing with "gold rated" etcetera lie in inefficiency: cheaper ones are less money to buy, but you'll be paying that money soon through your electricity bill.

Yes. It's made by EVGA.

@EtherealN I looked at the 660 Ti...the cheapest I could find was $300 at Tiger Direct. I just about broke my budget with the $250 I'm paying for the the 650 I chose. Would love to have one but just a bit more than I can justify.

They make decent cards, just make sure to register as I have heard they can be sticky about the 3-year warranty (which is quite nice) if you do not.

Found a 630W Corsair PSU for about $10 more thats 80 plus certified. Best I can do. Are the PSU and vid card the only 2 items you gentlemen had an issue with???

If you are on a budget, you could invesitgate swapping out the i7-3770K for an i5-3570K.

You basically lose HT and 2MB of L3 cache, but that's not a big deal for games. The savings are pretty big though.

(The HT is basically a good thing if you're doing a lot of video encoding and such things, but for games - including DCS - it is almost completely irrelevant.)

Thanks for the help but I need the i7 as I do some work with video and also graphic design (a hobby I'm trying to learn more about) so the i5 really wouldn't work. I did, however show the list of parts to a friend of mine and he pointed out a couple of areas where I had overspent. Ordered the parts today for a final cost of about $1150 with $22 for shipping. Once again thanks for the help. Was greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you got some good local advice too. Looks like you are ready to pull the trigger so good luck with the build.
