Supersheep Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Addendum: I'm a bit relieved after reading post #4 here. Since Krebs ran the server, the clients should see even less traffic, I guess. In the future, I will be using a shared Internet connection with low upload bandwidth. My question is, how much bandwidth does DCS require (about 8 players) on my client end (no server)? I cannot have DCS jam the line, because it effectively keeps everyone else out of the net. In this (old) thread I've read about figues as low as single-digit kb/s. How can I do my own measurement during a MP session? Thank you, Super- The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
EtherealN Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 If you want to see how much bandwidth individual processes are using, just keep Resource Monitor open and watch. Supersheep Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 As it might help other people as well, here are my findings: Yesterday, I had a server open with four players (including me), that generated 6 MB traffic over 45 minutes. Included is the Teamspeak chatter. This gives an average of 18.x kbit/s, so I guess that peak traffic for the session should be well below 40 kbit/s, in line with the posts linked above and even lower when not hosting the session (as per the OP). Thanks, EtherealN (nomen est omen? You should change that to Wireshark :P) Super- The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
Daniel M Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Super, are you talking about 8 DCS clients at the same time, or one dcs with 7 other users across an ICS connection? if the later look into setting up QOS? http://www.structuretoobig.com/post/2006/11/07/Setting-Up-Home-QoS.aspx If the former, is this a one time deal, or do the other 7 pay bills? I'd say either upgrade your level of service, or get a 2nd or 3rd line :D
