NC_Cyborg Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 (edited) I am trying to build an app that uses the weapon's weight used in the game. I came across several interesting finds. According to the Mission Editor, 1x rocket pod weighs 220lbs (All pods weigh the same in the simulator). You have the ability to carry 3x rocket pods on one station as well. But the weight for the three comes out to 1,548lbs. I think the 3x rocket pods on a station uses the BRU-42 (Triple Ejector Rack). But here is the math. Rocket Pods - 220lbs a piece 220 x 3 660 BRU-42LS - 143lbs 660 +143 803 I am still missing 745lbs. Is it possible that the rocket pods are loaded using the LAU-88? The same rack used for the AGM-65. But the LAU-88 only weighs 465lbs. But looking at the game, I am sure they are attached to the BRU-42LS. Is it possible that the game only measures the weight of the actual pod if it is loaded 1x rocket pod to one station? That math almost works out. 24lbs per rocket (HE Rocket) x7 168 + 220 Rocket Pod 388 x3 1164 + 143 BRU-42LS 1307lbs There are some other examples as well. Such as the Mk-82 and 3x Mk-82s on the TER. 531lbs 1x Mk-82 x 3 1593 + 143 BRU-42LS 1736lbs That is closer than the rocket scenerio. The game has 3x Mk-82s on a TER at 1726lbs. 10lbs isn't that bad of a difference. I am sure not all bombs weigh the exact same to the ounce. I also noticed that some of the weights in the game does not match with what the Dash-1 has published. Of course, I am using the Dash-1 from 1987. That much doesn't matter since I am more interested in the weight used in the game. I am using version A-10C 1.1. Any help in finding the correct weight that the game uses would be great. Thanks! NC_Cyborg Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 So, I have the formulas working for my little project. I gave it a dry run and it works like a champ (using MS Excel). I am still noticing the difference in weight from various weapons. I have also noticed that the Mission Editor places the aircraft over weight at approx. 46k lbs. The Dash-1 states max gross weight is 51k lbs. and until the aircraft is under 46k lbs. use gentle banks and turns. Again, I am using ver1.1 This is what my app is supposed to provide. V-speeds. Plane and simple, ha. Plug in your fuel and weapons and the app will provide you with best glide, Vref, Vapp, Vr and V2. As you putt around in your mission, you can update your fuel status and always know what best glide would be in the event of losing both engines. Again, any help in explaining the disparity in weapon weights would be greatly appreciated. Once I get everything working, I will get with ED for permission to publish the app. Thanks! WildBillKelsoe Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) beat you to it :D http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=92309 if it's on ipad/2/3 it would kick ass!! Edited September 17, 2012 by WildBillKelsoe AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. If you lose both engines the first thing you do is Jettison all of your stores. So best glide would be roughly the same with only fuel load making a small difference. Vr, V2 would be useful though. For me though a simple single page graph is easier than plugging numbers into an app (& quicker I should think). Good luck with it though. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
NC_Cyborg Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 WildBill - Great find! I already ran through the editor and got that data. My problem is with the multiple weapons on the same station. Such as the Mk-82 x3 = 1726 according to the Mission Editor. If you add the individual components, you come out to 1736. That is a difference of 10lbs. Of course 10lbs in not enough to mess with the airspeed calculations but adding the Mission Editor's 3x rocket pods to a station creates a big difference between the individual components added up. Druid - you are absolutely correct. You must drop everything for for best glide, pods and all. Best Glide is 140KIAS at 30,000lbs +2 / -2 KIAS for every 1000lbs. So far, all you have to do with my app is update you fuel quantity and weapons from time to time and you have your Vspeeds instantly. You could add this app to your start up sequence and as the mission goes through just update from time to time. Thanks for your inputs. I post a rough pic of what I have soon. NC_Cyborg Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I ended up making a weapon matrix for the A-10C. I uploaded the pdf to the wiki page. http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=70726&d=1348112378 'NC_Cyborg' [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic88701_1.gif[/sIGPIC]
