B12 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hi all first post here, bit confused about this, hope someone can clarify. I have DCS A10C, Black Shark 2 and Flaming Cliffs, heard about DCS World that is I think meant to tie them all together in a unified way? so downloaded that as it was free, however, when I start DCS World it shows purchase marks besides what I've already bought, heard that after installing DCS World I need to un-install A10, BS2 ETC then install them again, surely not? That would mean losing an activation, or I could deactivate, but if this is what's needed (un-install each module) it seems a bit complex to me? I don't fancy the Mustang at this point, so the modules I do own are DCS A10C and KA50 but if I can get this working right will probably buy DCS CA. Or it could be I don't have a clue what I'm talking about or not read the manual :) Can anyone throw me a bone please :)
EtherealN Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 What you have is old, stand-alone, versions of those simulators. What DCS world does is that it unifies the things that are common between them into one package (meaning less wasted HDD space and easier maintenance for both yourself and the development team). You then get the new aircraft through installing "modules" of them - think of the modules like DLC, and that your old license for standalone "games" are now license for specific aircraft modules that plug into DCS World. Therefore, all you should need to do is download the appropriate modules from here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=136&scr=products&lang=en You'll note that they are considerably smaller than the old installers were, since a lot of the "common stuff" is already in DCS World and these now only need to contain those things that are very specific to that aircraft module. (Missions, FM, cockpit etcetera.) Note that you'll have to make sure you select the appropriate Black Shark 2 verison (Upgrade or normal). If your products are already activated on your machine, they should automatically be activated once installed to DCS World without further intervention by you. FC2 does not have a DCS World module. (FC3, which is nearing release, will be one, however.) Also note that activations are NOT "per install". They are "per machine". You can uninstall and reinstall all day if you like without eating any activations, only when hardware changes (or the Operating System is reinstalled) would an activation be necessary. B12 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Wow, very quick and helpful reply ... So, I guess there is no need for my stand alone products now on my PC, right?, un-install them, download the new modules pertaining to my purchases and they will install in DCS World and launch from there? Sorry to bother you, just want to get it right  Thanks again.
EtherealN Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Yup, that's exactly right. You'll get some updates through the deal as well. :) (The modules are currently version 1.2.0, your standalones are version 1.1.1.1) The only thing to really pay attention to is that you want to make sure you download the right version of Black Shark 2. B12 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Thank you very much, am currently downloading the new DCS A10C, BS2 modules, will leave my current installs until all activation is successful (right?) then I can delete the stand alone installs? I understand I'm a BS owner who bought the BS2 upgrade, thanks. If this is correct, can I then safely delete my archived (backed up) original downloads as all future installs will be through DCS World? then presumably archive the new downloads. Now that I'm grasping the concept (LOL) it is a much better idea, and the new downloads do indeed look much smaller. Thanks again, you have been great, once this is all working I'll go ahead and pre-order DCS CA.
luza Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 B12, I strongly reccommend you to wait before uninstalling your standalone versions. Specially if you enjoy multiplayer DCSworld 1.2 is to be honest in quite a terrible state and has a lot of IMO gamebreaking mistakes that shouldn't have gotten past beta testing. (FC3 should come out this week, and therefor prolly a new DCS world update) ;) my 2 cents [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Never realised FC3 was so close, will I be able to get an upgrade for my current Flaming Cliffs 2 I wonder, or is it stand alone? Good advise, thank you too sir.
BigfootMSR Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Unless I missed it someplace, there has not been a release date for FC3. Only speculation. FC3 will be supported by world. There has been no announcement (unless I missed it) if ED will do the same discount deal with FC2 as with FC3. B12 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) It seems unclear hear, will there be a cheaper upgrade option from FC2 to to FC3? There was a lot of ambiguity the last Black Shark upgrade to BS2. Lets not see that happen again please. I only have a finite amount of money for this hobby. The Global economy is in recession. My personal finances are in recession. Even my thoughts on this hobby can be in recession, when the difference means doing this or putting food on a table for my family. Thanks. MadTommy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=93633 FC3 will be priced at $39.99. From the official announcement.. don't expect any discount for FC2 owners. i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. Echo38 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) In case there was any confusion: B12, don't deactivate. Simply install the new modules without activating. If you then wish to uninstall the stand-alones, uninstall them without deactivating. The process is confusing as heck; I read the install guide twice and I still ended up wasting an activation by mistake. And I'm a guy who's accustomed to installing complicated series of patches for various games and sims over the years. : / Edited September 29, 2012 by Echo38
