Hi,

I am just in the decision phase for a new graphics adapter and would need some more information about the requirements for DCS World. My configuration for the moment is 3 Monitors 1920x1200 defined as three different channels. I do not export any of the instruments so I have simply the basic configuration (3 Cameras).

CPU i7980

Graphics adapter XFX Black Edition dual GPU (2x 5900)

RAM 12 Gb

Meanwhile I know that dual GPUs are not supported by the DCS Game engine. So it runs with half the power only. It may happen, that the frame rate drops below 10 fps in a complicated scenery. Even with the latest update of DCS World I had to use the 'LOW' button to get a frame rate above 10fps. So here the question:

What would be the best single GPU card to drive the best frame rate with at least medium configuration settings (3 Cameras)?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Strictly speaking, it's not that the engine doesn't support multi-GPU solutions, it is the multi-GPU solutions that does not support DCS.

For three monitors, you'll be looking at a 670 or 680 for nVidia, most likely (500-series cards only support two monitors). Also, you'll probably be wanting as much vRAM as you can get your hands on.

AMD cards I'm not quite as familiar with, so best if someone else can advice there.

Hi EtherealN,

thank you for your reply. Yesterday I ordered a Palit GTX 680, 4Gb. It seems, that there are no faster cards available for the moment with the exception of workstation cards. Finally, I can only assume what advantage I have bought. Nevertheless, I will keep the community informed about the results in fps. If you speak strictly, wouldn't it be an idea to set Nvidia and ATI in the distribution list for DCS game updates? So they can change their standards accordingly.

Mike

Hi all,

here, as promised, the comparison of two graphics adapters. It is not a recommendation for a specific product. It is simply a measurement which reflects the difference between an older graphics adapter and the gain in fps with a newer one. The attachment describes the difference between an older ATI 5900 and a state of the art GTX680 with 4 Gb video RAM.

Regards

Mike

Thx, Nicely presented test results tow, very useful for people like myself on similar hw who are looking to upgrade int he same way.

I wonder if anyone would care to speculate what effect over clocking tow's 'after' setup to about 4ghz would have on the fps...
