JEFX Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Can any of the DEVs confirm if the upcoming F-15C in FC3 will have EPLRS (as opposed to now)?? thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D
bird-1 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I don't think so, just guess not.. JEFX Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 I have no idea, so I trust you but, what do you base that guess on? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D
Eddie Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Well given that EPLRS is a ground datalink system and not fitted to aircraft, it's a pretty safe assumption. ;)
JEFX Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 Sorry, didnt know that. Just took for granted that most other AC in DCS A-10C have it (A-10C, F-15E, F-16C, F-18C, and even AH-64), is it because these birds are Ground attack capable that they have it as well? I must say that it was very handy on TAD to have all the other air assets mapped and will the F-15C have some kind of datalink as well (like the russian birds use to have in LOFC2?) thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... JEFX Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 OK did some research and I get it better. Of course, there is the distinction between SADL and EPLRS, but from what I have read, there should be an integration of these 2 systems, even on pure A-A fighters... from here : (the company that makes it) http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/products/sadl/ ''SADL-EPLRS Joint Combat ID Through Situation Awareness Joint Combat ID through Situation Awareness The Situation Awareness Data Link (SADL) integrates US Air Force close air support aircraft with the digitized battlefield via the US Army's Enhanced Position Location Reporting System (EPLRS). More than just a radio or a data modem, SADL provides fighter-to-fighter, air-to-ground and ground-to-air data communications that are robust, secure, jam-resistant and contention-free. With its inherent position and status reporting for situation awareness, SADL provides an effective solution to the long-standing air-to-ground combat identification problem. Air-to-Ground Mode The pilot commands the SADL radio to synchronize with a specific ground network. His radio will share fighter-to-fighter data while recording ground positions from the EPLRS network. Fighter-to-Fighter Operation The SADL radio is integrated with aircraft avionics over the 1553 multiplex data bus, providing the pilot with data from other SADL-equipped aircraft as well as positions of EPLRS-equipped aircraft and ground units. SADL is capable of fighter-to-fighter network operation without reliance on a ground-based EPLRS network control. Force XXI Operability Task Force XXI has identified EPLRS as the “backbone communication system of the maneuver brigade”. SADL- equipped close air support aircraft provide the combat ID of all digitized battlefield forces' positions, including non-EPLRS users.'' Eddie Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 It's a game thing, EPLRS is used in the ME but it should really just say "data link" as there are many different data link systems at play. But it is not actually EPLRS, in the case of the A-10C (and F-16C) it is SADL, which is capable of interfacing with EPLRS (used by ground units). The F-15C, for example, uses MIDS which can't directly share information with SADL. In order for information to be shared between different data link systems there needs to be a "gateway" system which combines all data received from the different sources and then "translates" and shares it on.
JEFX Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 well well that sounds like typical computer devices compatibility fun! But, besides the theory, (or RL I must say), what will our next F-15C (FC3) have as far as datalink system? thanks Eddie for answering so quickly!
