pii Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 They just look different, everything else (including the inside mechanism) is the same between those two models. I personally prefer the not-combat ones, as I also fly a lot of civ sims. Thanks, looks like I can save 100.00 bucks :-)
sahib Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Thanks, looks like I can save 100.00 bucks :-) One thing I should probably mention - on the standard version (pro flight) your heels are placed on the pedals, while on the combat version they are on the base of the unit. It would be best to try both units out yourself, the standard version takes a bit of getting used to, especially if you're a car driver :)

Unfortunately I have no way to try them out since no store around here actually sells them so I have to Newegg'em (hmmm I think I just came up with New Eggs next motto) . I've never used peddles and I generally kick back in my easy chair, feet up, when I sim (I like to relax while I bomb people:pilotfly::joystick:) So just having my feet down is going to take some getting used to never mind the peddles. Thanks for the insight!
DeathInACan Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Hi, Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents. The Thrustmaster Warthog is BRILLIANT! However, if that isn't in your price range then the X52 Pro is a good alternative. The X52 and the X52 Pro are different in one important way: the X52 uses only one centering spring (too soft) and the X52 Pro uses two centering springs (better, firmer). I used to own an X52 Pro before I bought my TM Warthog and I can tell you it is quite a nice joystick, plenty of buttons for DCS games. A separate throttle is not necessary but it is both realistic and will make flying a fair bit easier. So I would highly recommend the X52 Pro over the standard X52 and if you are interested in pedals at some point in the future I recommend Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals (been using them for a while now). Happy flying! EDIT: somehow I had a brain spazz and that message was meant for the original poster. Ended up being kinda off topic here on page 6. XD Still, Warthog + Pedals RULES! Thats ok man we all do it. I would add that one of the reasons I went to a new setup from my x52 was that I couldn't get it to work under win 7 64 bit. Their drivers aren't signed and even after disabling "enforce driver signing (or something like that) it still wouldn't load any configs and the device had a "could not start" error in device manager because of the driver not being signed. The x52pro looks nice and is priced right but the warthog is in a class by itself no doubt about it. The thing is so solid and heavy you could use it to beat off intruders, if you're strong enought to swing it. :D

Thanks for the insight! Hi, I kinda wish i had gotten the combat pedals just to have my heels on floor. I find you have to be careful with your feet when the are in the pro pedals. I keep taking them out so i don't inadvertently put inputs in when i don't want to.If they sold an upgrade to take off the pedals for the aluminum ones I'd probably get it as the innards are the same.
