Hey Guys and Gals!

I'm pretty new to DCS World and i have been having a load of fun with the A-10C recently. One of my mates decided to give the game a try but suffered from terrible framerates of +/- 5fps on min settings! His specs are as follows; Nvidia GT555M, Intel Core i7 2630QM OC 2.9gh, 16gb ram. As you can see this is a notebook! Although, this is a very high end notebook and his fps in other games we play together is very similar to mine which are pretty good. I understand DCS is quite demanding but this notebook is pretty high end and should meet the recommended requirements. So guys, any help would be greatly appreciated as we have been grinding at getting it working for a few days now!

If there is any other info you guys need please tell! He has tried multiple driver updates and re-installations by the way.

Thanks,

Aneuthanasia

What's his OS? Which rendering options is he using? DX version? Such notebooks usually have two GPUs - is he using the main GPU or the "auxiliary" one? What is the notebook model - GT555M means different things unfortunately - at least three architectures carry that name, along with different clock speeds, shader counts and memory configurations?

Well according to notebookcheck the GT555 is an mid range card same as my old 5850 mobile ATI card. Which can run DCS on high-medium settings but prolly not as good as my current notebook (MX17 Alienware gen 3). So not that very high end sorry to say. it is a 3 year old notebook.

Anyways what i experienced is that while running DCS my auto lock for temp kicks in rather fast giving me FPS shuttering. So it could be that temps are in effect. And dont say yeah well other high graphic demanding games dont act like this. Yes i know but they do it rather non-seeing it. So get a laptop cooler pad (really works wonders btw)

Thanks for the replies so far guys. He is currently at work and so i can't get his further PC details as of right now but I will do as soon as i can get in touch with him! I understand that the GPU may not be top of the range currently but it's still pretty good right? I mean, it should not give 5fps on MIN setting. I'm not sure if it's to do with temperature because the bad FPS kicks in as soon as he is in-game. By the way i'm not sure if this helps but i do remember him telling me that when he looks up his fps goes to about 20fps.

That Video Card should be OK. I run the A-10 on a GT 8000 NVidea Card thats in my sons PC.

I think it may be the OS(32Bit or 64) that is giving him fits along with any tweaks he or someone else may have applied to the system.

So let us know what OS he is using and whether anyone mucked with the Cacheing? Like some people believe in turning it off or lowering its access to memory for gaming. Has anyone ran the overclocking tweaks in the BIOS? Has he installed an SSD?

Thanks for the reply AtaliaA1! He is still at work and so I can't go into specifics just yet! He has Windows 7 64 bit i'm pretty sure of that. His i7 is overclocked by the shop he bought it from so might that cause any problems?

SOLVED!!! Allright guys we have solved this issue! The problems seems to have been that NVidia control panel stuffs was not detecting the game as an application or game and so was running it on the default power saving Intel HD card. This was fixed by going into manage 3d setting in the nvidia control panel and adding the program DCS buy locating the .exe and then setting it to use the 555M. Be advised that this may show up as DCS: Blackshark on the list but it's not a problem! Now the games runs smoothly off of his main card!

Yeah i disabled that power save thing in mine laptop too bit pointless if you have an high end 5kg laptop if you ask me =)

Glad it is solved but keep that temp low as DCS does pull a lot of the gpu/cpu i found out
