ENO Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Okay. So just confirm for me- short of servman that hasn't been updated since 1.1.1.1- we have no protection from smacktards?! We got hit a few times last night from the same guy- multiple usernames. I have his ucid of course but I can't do anything with it- unless I load servman which doesn't seem to be doing my connections any favour. Sorry- I'm losing my mind here. I mean I'm choked that some idiot can come in and go to such lengths- I'm actually bordering on disgusted that I have no way other than unsupported 3rd party Aps to protect against these morons. I want to host an open server with unique missions for all to enjoy- is it my fault that I can't protect it? What's the holdup?! Panzertard made it work- why can't you!? chokko Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) put a password on your server ;) flame suit is on it tells you the ucid each time a client connect now doesn't it (in chat window of server at least)..so you might have to be a little pro-active checking it each time someone joins. I hope to officially release it, with a few more features, shortly. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. ENO Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) put a password on your server ;) flame suit is on it tells you the ucid each time a client connect now doesn't it (in chat window of server at least)..so you might have to be a little pro-active checking it each time someone joins. Eh Chokko... I know, I know- :) That is the solution. The broader scope of the server I host (and that several other assist with as admin) is that my mission design specialist (wrecking crew) works very hard to develop mission concepts that ALL can enjoy and likes to see everyone from all over the world come in and fly. As such, we've worked very hard to leave the door open for everyone. When I'm home and playing, I am just around the corner from the server computer and I CAN check and kick (and I did last night) but when I'm not around the admins have to access from teamviewer and it simply isn't practical. Him and I have had this discussion a few times... and he wins because I just maintain the hardware. He's actually the guy putting all the work into it. Servman was the perfect program (I don't know slmod- but it sounds awesome too) for us for many reasons... not the least of which is proactive ucid blocking. I've had a guy come in under 4 different names now just to taunt and teamkill. I'd like a chat log that lasted longer than the posting of the next mission- but I've gotten used to saving them first. At least with Servman those logs were recorded and if that functionality can be integrated with some of these other programs that would be fantastic! I haven't had an opportunity to collect too many ucid's- but those I DO have along with associated tacview files are available for anyone who wants to block these idiots from ruining their server. I would like to see these blocked IDs broadcast in open forum but I know some forum hosts are hesitant to allow such things even if we leave names out of it. I'm not sure how ED Forums feels about that? Short of being able to post them in a particular thread- I'll be compiling this list into my gdrive with a link... and zip files including pertient information- whether it's server logs, tracks, tacview files, screens... etc. Interceptor thank you for working hard on building such features into slmod. Speed- also... thank you. Edited November 16, 2012 by ENO "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
ENO Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 I just thought of another potential issue... If guys buy 3-4 (or all) of the available world modules- does that mean I need to block 3-4 different ucids? Are all ucids going to be linked together so if one is banned from a server then they are ALL banned? Which UCID is it that you log when you join a server? Or is the ucid issued to the user themselves with their profile... Frick- I just confused myself... and it was easier than I thought it would be. Grimes Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 No, UCID should be based on the user account and not on what modules a user has. BRooDJeRo Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Having all sorts of different people on your server from everywhere is fun. Im not a fan of generalisation, but due to noticably more misbehaviour of a free product by less mature people i dont have the Toad in any publicly hosted missions. Unrest is down to a minimum.
ENO Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Interesting point you make there, Brood... it's too bad because I like having the Toads alongside for their SEAD capabilities and I can't lie... the sound of them is just wild! Well to me... I don't get to fly with them very much. Crew has left them out of many of the missions- perhaps it should stay that way. That is a VERY valid point!
