Maverick-90 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Hi, it looks not that nice to land on the Kuz' with not even a KA-27 on deck. Also the Nimitz looks very lonely with an empty flight deck... wouldn't it be great if we could set a number of planes and their types, which are parking on the Flightdeck? (or even better: place them on our own?) It would add some "Real-life Touch" to carrier OPS would this be possible in 1.12 or 1.2?
Yellonet Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 True, probably not going to happen though as the simulations focus is not on carrier ops... actually I'm not sure where the focus lies anymore... it used to be western vs eastern aircraft but it seems to be shifting more towards russian A2G aircraft, FC now and BS next year. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
WhiskeyRomeo Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I know its a bit of a hassle but just a little work with the mission editor and you can have an AI KA-27 chopper and a couple AI SU-33s on the deck. Just program them in at the very beginning of the mission. Its worth the effort, especially if you're taking screenshots.

I've done that sometimes, but the AI always take their sweet time landing :( i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
WhiskeyRomeo Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I've done that sometimes, but the AI always take their sweet time landing :(Hint: Lower fuel states help speed things up. And so will getting the Alt/Distance/Heading right for final approach.
Maverick-90 Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 I've done that sometimes, but the AI always take their sweet time landing :( yep in the time they need to get 2 planes down, we can land a 6 plane group -.- I know its a bit of a hassle but just a little work with the mission editor and you can have an AI KA-27 chopper and a couple AI SU-33s on the deck. Just program them in at the very beginning of the mission. Its worth the effort, especially if you're taking screenshots. The way AI is parking on the Deck is VERY unrealistic, they just put everything to the end of the deck :icon_conf in reality every plane has it's own parking area (E-2 next to the island, Intruder and Vikings between Island and front Cats) T'cats and F/A-18 could (In lockon) be parked there also, as their parking positions are on the landing strip and the front cats it would also be nice if we could order the starting jets to use Cat 3&4 and not 1&2 so some jets could be parked there.....i know it's just some detailtuning, but it would be awesome to have a full deck without having to wait 12 hours for the AI to land
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 It is time consuming to do it - but you can have a carrier that feels alive. try this pack I made, Ka-27 helicopters and Su-33 land in the carrier. ;)
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Also be nice if "Starting from Parking Area" on a carrier didnt put you ready to roll just like "Start from Runway". On an airbase you get the chance to taxi to your takeoff position, be nice to do the same on a carrier... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 It would be nice if when you start from the parking area your wingman don't start from a shelter this way delaying the mission TO time.
bSr.LCsta Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 make sure your wind is no more than 3fps at ground level of AI can NOT land on carrier :( is this ok?
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 You can if you turn your carrier to take advantage of the wind.
bSr.LCsta Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 yes, but landing in a cross wind is more fun. I wonder what the rule of the thumb is for wether or not a carrier will make a course adjustment for air operations relating to weather? I can't imagine changing the course of a battle group for a 4fps crosswind, but I don't know? p.s. Thomas, I gave that mission pack a try.... I like the briefing PDF, but I have not got through the first mission yet. 1 wingman vs. over 12 bandits? We killed 11 and ran out of missiles :( Seems a bit much to ask of two 33's. Not sure if I will I continue with this or not. I usually don't engage in suicide missions :P is this ok?
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 :D You know what I do ? I run away! Shoot down the two MiG-29, then the Tornado - now you have two pairs of Su-17 defended by a pair of F/A-18, shoot down the Hornets and you can kill the Su-17 at leisure. Then go back to the K. don't linger there or more enemy fighters are bound to appear sooner than later. Oh - If you engage the Su-17 they jettison their weapons - mission accomplished. In later missions: In the beginning of the missions I use the Russian SAM as a defense - they are quite dense over and near Anapa AFB, so I lure NATO fighters near it. They can't reach me and that evens the odds. I flew all the missions after I made them, and I had a hard time finishing some , but there are not more enemies than you can cope with. I tried to be as realistic as I could - no massed waves, no fighters spawn mid-air after T+0, all take off and the reason for 1 wingman was to make a 2x2 or 1x1 dogfight more frequent . I am finishing updating a pack to 1.1.1 - and I'll post a track of one of the missions later.
