ohmy Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 First, my english is bad. I want to know if in the future this game will have support with 800x600 screen resolution. I cant believe it but, this is one of the four games i know without support for that screen resolution. The other three games are: Men of War, Metro 2033 and Terrorist Takedown: War in Colombia. Please, add support with 800x600, all other games i play in my life have 800x600 support. I can understand games for DOS like Prince of Persia or Space Invaders dont have 800x600 compatibility but not this game. Thanks for read and i will wait for a new patch.
aap_flanker Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 You can edit with notepad++ the file options.lua located into saved games/dcs/config... It's not necessary that they patch anything, they can't bring all the resolutions.... Because it is so easy to edit this game to fit your desired resolution Intel i5 11700F + H80 | 4x4GB 3200mhz RAM | AORUS ELITE B560M | Samsung 850 PRO SSD 256gb| KINGSTON SA400 480GB SSD | WD 500GB | Gigabyte GTX 1070 8GB | Antec 1200 PSU | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and homemade panels and rudder pedals | 24" Samsung T24C550 @60Hz 2ms | Opentrack 3 led clip
EtherealN Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 This is not supported and may potentially cause problems: Navigate to C:\Users\XXXXX\SavedGames\DCS\Config\ Open "options.lua" in a text editor. I recommend Notepad++. Find graphics section on rows 28 through 56: ["graphics"] = { ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "1camera", ["color"] = "32", ["preloadRadius"] = 150000, ["heatBlr"] = 1, ["scenes"] = "high", ["water"] = 2, ["fullScreen"] = false, ["disableAero"] = false, ["visibRange"] = "High", ["treesVisibility"] = 9000, ["aspect"] = 1.7822580645161, ["haze"] = 1, ["HDR"] = 1, ["TranspSSAA"] = true, ["textures"] = 2, ["cockpitShadows"] = true, ["shadows"] = 2, ["effects"] = 3, ["MSAA"] = 2, ["height"] = 600, ["sync"] = false, ["shadowTree"] = true, ["civTraffic"] = "", ["width"] = 800, ["clutterMaxDistance"] = 500, ["lights"] = 2, }, -- end of ["graphics"] Change rows as above. NOTE: this will cause problems with the user interface. In some cases buttons will not be clickable and you will have to use keyboard (enter key, esc, etcetera). There may also be other problems. As said, this is not supported. 800x600 is simply too old resolution. ohmy Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) thanks for respond, but the problem is the interface. i can force the game to start in 800x600 without problem but i cant select some buttons ( and the keyboard cant select ALL buttons too ). edit : and, im sorry but im not good modding interfaces, the only interface mod i do in my life is for C&C Generals Zero Hour to support more general powers on the screen and took me some hours >.< Edited November 20, 2012 by ohmy
falcon_120 Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 why would you use that resolution? Can't you go a bit higher? At 800x600 you should have a lot of problems readings gauges,MFDs, seeing target etc...
EtherealN Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 i can force the game to start in 800x600 without problem but i cant select some buttons ( and the keyboard cant select ALL buttons too ). Unfortunately there is no way around this without going into very complex lua work to redistribute buttons in the user interface. 800*600 is such a small resolution it has even been abandoned on telephones. Supporting it would require remodeling the user interface towards being made for a resolution that is not in use as a standard resolution anymore. The reason many other games still support it is that they are made for consoles, and TV's still need such bad resolutions, but on PC's it is almost 10 years ago that this stopped being a key resolution to support. Even my 2 years old, $200 dollar netbook has better resolution than 800x600. ohmy Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Yes i know 800x600 is too old but i use it all my life and actually i play all games in that resolution, maybe someday i buy a better monitor and probably use other resolutions but not for the moment. i dont want to force my monitor to change the resolution constantly when i minimize a game, for that i like play games with the same res/hz/color but i think this game will never have support to 800x600, so probably i download&play this game again in some years ( or maybe a new version ? ) with a new monitor. anyways thanks for respond, close the thread if you want.
ishtmail Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Ohmy, flight simulators are meant to be played on as large monitors as you can afford, and ofcourse with as high a resolution as your system can play without problems. I'm playing on a 1920x1080 resolution on a 27'' monitor, and even this is starting to look like too small a monitor. There is a reason why serious simmers set up their system with 3 monitors in Eyefinity: immersion in the game is just so much better if you've got more monitor surface in front of you.
