SAM: What is the purpose of the command post?

I'm starting the long road to learning about the different SAM systems modeled in A-10C. After several searches in the forum I've been able to piece a vague image of the different scales, capabilities and requirements of the different systems.

What I can't for the life of me figure out is what is the necessity/role of the command post? Correct me if I'm wrong but...

LN = Launcher. It shoots the things that hurt.

SR = Search Radar. It looks for things to hurt.

TR = Tracking Radar. It guides the things that hurt.

STR = SR + TR in one painful package.

So where do CC, CP and the MANPADS "comm" fall into place? What is their purpose and when should I use them?

Must be. No one else has chimed in. Already watched several YouTube videos on SAMs and scoured the forums some more and not once has the command post been brought up.

Probably just a distinct target for mission purposes or something. "Take out the command post at blah blah blah" or some such.

CP units increase a SAM group's SA, allowing it to detect targets and prepare to engage at greater ranges than the SAM's own detection capabilities. In effect this is kind of like modeling a datalink system between the CP and SAM units in the group. For example adding a radar CP to a MANPAD unit will allow it to engage aircraft at night, which it cannot do otherwise. For most other cases, though, it simply decreases reaction time by extending detection range.

Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer.

Thanks for the info. I've had no luck getting definitive answer. Need to add this to my list of notes.
