Yellonet Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 One of the, in my opinion obviously, worst things with LockOn is its weak editor, and as the editor is weak the possibilities for different missions are very limited, I'm not even sure that you can set any real "win" condition. With a good editor you would easily be able to set up missions like this: A) Fly to area X and scout for ground units, partial success if you spot one or two groups, success if you spot three or more groups, failure if you fail to spot any enemy ground troops. B) Fly to area X and fly CAP until a flight of two Su-27s from Majkop airbase join you and relieve you, Success if you live, failure if you die ;) C) Fly to area X and engage enemy ground units, partial success 30-40% enemy losses, success 41%+ enemy losses, failure 0-29% enemy losses. On my list of updates, a new/heavily improved editor is very high up. I think that this is something very important for the future of this simulation. The ability to have advanced conditions for victory/defeat and triggers is something that really makes the battlefield come alive. An example of an editor which is very easy to use but still very powerful is the one for the FPS Operation Flashpoint, you can pretty much do any kind of mission, it even has a scripting language for advanced mission makers. If LockOn had something similar to that both single player and multiplayer missions would be immensely enriched and would probably enlarge the fanbase. An more user-friendly editor with triggers and other vital features is a must for the future growth and longevity of this fine sim. LockOn deservs a better editor. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5

Yellonet Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 I second thatStrangely enough you seem to be the only one. IMO the editor is one of the most important aspect of a good sim. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Yellonet Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 I can'te belive that no one seems to think that this is important :icon_evil i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
GGTharos Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 It's been brought up a lot of times. An editor like JF-18's would be ideal. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

It has been discussed quite a few times (Editor with possibility to program triggers, scripts etc.) 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 The mission editor is at best, functional.
Yellonet Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 That's true. It has been discussed quite a few times (Editor with possibility to program triggers, scripts etc.)Why doesn't ED think that this very important thing isn't so important? We basically have the same editor as we had with Flanker 2... even worse IMO. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Yellonet Posted November 25, 2005 Author Posted November 25, 2005 *Bump* I think that this topic deserves more attention... We REALLY need a better editor with everything that it entails. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
GGTharos Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 ED is well aware, believe me :) However don't expect anything too soon ... everything is focused towards teh Ka-50 primrily right now, AFAIK, together with WAFM and perhaps some other goodies which as of yet I know nothing about - those two are the only confirmed things ... or I should say, for sure the Ka-50 is confirmed, and I'm pretty confident that we'll get WAFM. WAFM? World's Awesomest Flight Model? They're really taking these Californian schoolgirl names on board, aren't they? :p http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
