Question regarding Skin in multiplayer

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I have a question. I have made some skins for me and some of my friends. When we tested it yesterday it appeared random who could see the skins when we were playing in multiplayer. Everyone installed all skins in the correct folder, and everyone could see the skins in singleplayer. It appeared that those that entered the server first could see all skins, but those joining later did only see standard skin on those already there. (although the others could see his skin as a custom skin.) Anyone know why this is happening? and of there is a fix for this?

Yes, all that is correct. It appeared that the joining sequence did affect who could see all skins. The person joining first and second could see all skins, but the ones joining later could only see their own skin. ( the "first joiners" could see theirs though). And when we changed the joining sequence the same thing happend...

Any ideas or if this is a bug?

No, because i was joining first the first time, and could see all 5 skins. And when i joined as the last one the second time, I could only see my own skin, all the other had a default skin. (they could see my skin though)

you also have to have some of the texture's in the temptexture folder..other than that..don't know and just wait until a skin expert helps out...:doh:

Hi NECK,

Yes there is definitely a bug. I had our squad skins on our server, and each of the players had it too.

When the mission started some defaulted to the game skin and some displayed the squad skin.

About an hour or so in the game. Everyone was suddenly displaying the correct skins.

There is a bug with the KA-50 skin. It does not default to an existing in game skin if someone selects a slot where it's assigned a squad skin and the user does not have it.

It displays orange "Texture Missing" skins.

This does not apply for the rest of the DCSW flyable planes though.

Happened again couple of nights ago when we were 4 people playing together. Appeared to be random who could see the skins. Anyone from ED or someone from the larger virtual groups having these problems?

We run 20 something custom a-10 (individual pilots, training squadron, etc), a few different KC-135, and Blackhawk skins in the 476th and I haven't heard of any of our pilots having issues. Details on how you have them installed?

Here is how we've got them (A-10 skins anyways) installed, in DCS World, in the 476th:

1. Texture (.dds, 57 total files) files are placed in x:\Program Files\DCS World\Bazar\World\textures\A-10.zip

2. Liveries folders (22 total) are placed in x:\Program Files\DCS World\Bazar\Liveries\A-10C

So Paul you added your custom skins to the A-10.Zip file and then under liveries you made the individual skin folders to house the description file.

That defeats the purpose of having the liveries installed directly in their own folders.

It should work that way. You should not be adding texture files to the original zip.

There is a bug because the folders are not always read entirely like they should. The zip file is always loaded into memory. But hey ..it works that way I guess.

You're right but we choose to do it this way and don't have issues seeing skins...plus the install would be huge if we had all the files for each individual pilot in their respective liveries folder.

To be clear, each liveries folder does contain the nose dds, we only place the shared dds files into the A-10.zip

I made 7 different folders, and put all the 12 dds files and the description lua in their respective folder (one for each custom skin), and put there different folders in the bazar/liveries/a10c folder

Is there another way? I have only been watching tutorials, and I dont know how the other solution you are talking about can be accomplished? If you could give me a brief description on how you have done it, I could try that?

Thanks for the reply btw

Here is how we do it...

Description.lua

livery = {

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-a", 0 ,"76thVFS_Baxter-a",false};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-b", 0 ,"76thVFS-b",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-c", 0 ,"76thVFS-c",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-d", 0 ,"76thVFS-d",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-e", 0 ,"76thVFS-e",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-f", 0 ,"76thVFS-f",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-g", 0 ,"76thVFS-g",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-h", 0 ,"76thVFS-h",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-i", 0 ,"76thVFS-i",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-j", 0 ,"76thVFS-j",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-k", 0 ,"76thVFS-k",true};

{"A-10C_PAINT_1-L", 0 ,"76thVFS-l",true};

{"A-10_Number", 0 ,"TactNumbers-USAF-Light_black",true};

{"A-10_Number_Noze_F", 0 ,"empty",true};

{"A-10_Number_Noze_T", 0 ,"TactNumbers-USAF-Light_black",true};

{"A-10_Number_Wheel", 0 ,"TactNumbers-USAF-Light_black",true};

Within each liveries folder we place the "a" dds in the folder with the discription.lua, for the example the file is "76thVFS_Baxter-a.dds

We do this with all 23 liveries folders.

We then place the "true" textures, b thru l in the x:\Program Files\DCS World\Bazar\World\textures\A-10.zip file.

Yes, you could add each of these to the individual liveries folders but then the file size for the install would be huge.

I run into a problem when trying to doing it this way. When i follow what you have mentioned above paulrkii, the one thing showing on the A-10 is the xxx-a.dds file, so only the nosepart of the A-10 has texture. The rest of the aircraft is covered in orange, and it says missing texture.

Do you know what I might be doing wrong?

Disregard.. it appeared to be working now. Ill try a more full scale test later, and ask again if it still is not working

Only did a small test with 1 skin, but will try later with more skins to see if that works out fine aswell...

Thanks for the help and support so far:)

This is much simpler, there is a bug regarding skins in multiplayer -

If you join the server after someone already entered a plane with a custom skin, you will not see him with the skin until he respawns.

Kind of annoying bug.

Hopefully ED knows about this and are fixing it for 1.2.3

What does your Description.lua look like and where are you placing your textures (dds files)?

I have sent you a message with the a-10.zip file, and a zip file containing our liveries folder containing the noseart dds, and lua file.

We did another test yesterday, after trying the way you explained it, and the same thing appeared to happen, players could only see some of the skins, and it appeared to be random, who could see which skin.
