He guys,

I >Thought< I posted this the other day but I cant find it anyplace...It is entirely possible I started to post it but timed out due to crappy internet where I work.

I am trying to use DCS:World and the SU25 as the HOST for a MP server. Problem is with server up and running, when I log in with a Client computer, I do not see the server in the browser. My questions...

1.) Can World / SU25 host a server or does a paid for module have to be running?

2.) If World CAN host without a paid module, what is the best way to administer it...

3.) If World can host any hints on how to set up Server and Client to share same router?

Thanks in advance

First question I'd have is whether or not you have port 10308 open for UDP and TCP on your router. This is required for the server to "broadcast" out to the world. You may also need to open that in your firewall if you have one working...

As for the rest of your questions- you can run a server on World and anyone with any paid module can play on it and see it... but it'll obviously depend on what aircraft spots are available in the mission you've posted.

Currently in 7570 tankers are a major issue, so you may need to strip them out or people won't be able to connect. Other issues exist with forcing of civ traffic and scene detail in any setting. These are mission editor things you'll need to double check.

We've been told it helps to open up the missions you're planning on using and saving them again in the mission editor on the computer that will be hosting.

There's no issue hosting through the same router- but the server comp needs to have the above mentioned ports open.

We think we resolved some issues by putting the server in a DMZ within the router- There are seemingly random UDP port changes that occur throughout the game and these seemed to happen right around the time people were being kicked (according to my logs).

Ultimately running a LAN connection through your router to the host computer is no problem- that's what I've been doing since the beginning. But remember you'll need to connect through LAN in the multiplayer menu.

DMZ definitely solves the UDP port changes and packet switches, but a ridiculous 'have to have' in my opinion. tut tut ED.

However, needs must n all that - DMZ it is.

We have tested extensively 7570 and specifically scenes, CTD's cliet disconnects etc. DMZ will prevent Client disco's.

The next patch resolves all of these issues.

Whats the best way to administer the server? Add on programs?

I'm certain we're equally hopeful-

Sierra as for administrating, 1.1.1.1 was still good with servman and there are lots of functions that exist within that program to help "police" team killing and a few other parameters... latency, mission rotations, restarts, mission pause when empty... plus bantables etc. Servman lost some function since 1.21 though broodjero has modified the main.lua a bit to maintain functionality for his purposes.

Slmod is the new answer to 1.2.2 versions- now up to version 6.2 I believe and created by Speed... he has links to that program in his sig. It is more valuable as a mission developing tool to some... but for me as the operator of a server depend on it to ban by UCID as well as help to swap missions and do general admin functions. It has automatic kicking / banning for tk etc but it's not quite as good at doing it as Servman was. Not as good as in not quite as versatile.

Also, teamviewer has been a big part of helping us adminstrate from a distance- if you need to be able to access the actual computer to change anything within the actual DCS program, or your SLMOD seetings... or restart the server after a crash (most common)- Teamviewer is unbeatable (IMHO ;) )
