ncimike3 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) I'm looking into getting a new video card for my setup and after reading the posts have come to the conclusion that the GTX 680 is the best out there. The only question is should I get the "FTW" which has 4 gig of ram. I can afford either one at the moment. I guess what I don't know is what will the extra 2 gig do for me? Will it give me more FPS or will it allow me to add more monitors without taking a FPS hit? I am currently building a sim pit and plan on having 3 monitors in front with 2 below running Helios. Thanks for any help. cichlidfan Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 4GB if you are going to have five monitors. The more pixels you wish to display the more VRAM you want. 2GB will be a bit tight IMHO. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
WarthogSmurf Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 http://techreport.com/review/23217/triple-screen-gaming-on-today-graphics-cards/11 although it is amd vs nvidia the funny part is that the gtx680 with 2 gig does the same as the amd 4gig on terms of resultions. So somewhere the 2gig can handle atleast triple head. with the two helios screens added i think what cichildfan said could be usefull. It never hurts to have a bit more vram
