zenTera Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Hi MonnieRock, I've seen in your sig that you use an ASUS A8N SLI Premium and a Creative X-Fi. Which X-Fi do you have? Does this combination work for you? My dealer told me (and I read this in different forums) that the X-Fi doesn't work with nForce4 Chips (which the ASUS has) and I should wait some more time with the purchase until the they get rid of the problems. Thanks Tom
MonnieRock Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Tom, aka zenTera, Only problem I had so far is, I could not update my BIOS with the Asus Auto flash utility. I had to create a DOS bootdisk that contained awdflash.exe and the xxxx.BIN file of the BIOS. That worked fine as wine. Other than that, I have had zero problems and it sounds great. I do not use it for recording music because I have another soundcard interface for that with that said, I use it only for gaming. I have the x-fi xtreme music. There is a long thread at the creative site. might want to spend some time and read over the posts. Some are childish some are valid. What I gather is some of the cards need a firmware update and must be sent back. I am not sure how to comfirm a new card bought has the updated firmware. http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=26289&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Maybe I can help or will try. If you are intersted, this is how these componets perform http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/MonnieRock/Benchmark_5.jpg You are welcome Monnie Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
zenTera Posted November 25, 2005 Author Posted November 25, 2005 Hey Monnie, thanks for your quick reply. Guess I still will wait until either ASUS or Creative (or both) state officially that the problems are resolved. Sounds terrible what you can read at the Creative forum, and I don't want to spoil my new rig (which will come next week hopefully) from the beginning. Tom
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 monnie, what did you get at stock before you OCd ? cuz i see you got a 240fsb, which for the x2 is a real decent OC, also i was checking the voltages on your chip, now I cant go as high as that due to the fact that there is 2 types of voltage settings for our cpu's, the highest that I can go before cpu shutsdown is 1.35, temp is way below shutdown temp aswell. i thought i had a dodgy chip, but i took serial number and contacted AMD, they replied that there is 2 different flavours of the x2 regarding voltages. and I got stuck with the lower voltage one. So 1.35 is tops for me and 1.298/1.3 is normal setting. which is crap. even enermax has that on there website. so i got pwnd :( so if you could give me an approximate stock setting 3d mark score just to compare to my 12000 that would be cool. cheers ;) Also the majority of the x2s have the lower voltage, going by what AMD dude said. So you are lucky my friend to have the high voltage model. REAL NICE 3d05 Score, you H4X ;)
MonnieRock Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Evil, When I get some time at home away from work, I will set things to default and give it a run for you. Remember, the latest NV drivers support dual core and that is why we see some improvements. MonnieRock Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Time is the factor, not the hardware. The hardware does what I tell it to do. Work tells me what to do hehehe Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
