Manuel Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hey Team, I just installed helios and put on a few elements on my second screen. It works, it's great but it causes me a 10fps drop and thats not acceptable. There are just a few items there : Altimeter, VVI, Speed, AHI, G meter and fuel tank, both mfcds. It looks like this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/338/42774910200287994348675.jpg/ It is not clear to me, why this is causing so much performance. It is definitely HELIOS because if I turn it off, my fps is about 45 to 50, with Helios enabled 25-27. I have two monitors setup side by side (on the pc but they are bottom top physically). Resolution on the main screen is 1920x1080, secondary is 1280x720. I used A10C iControl Server to set it up in a .lus profile. This is what it looks like: --***DO NOT MODIFY THESE COMMENT LINES*** --A10CVirtualCockpitServer v0.0.0.0 --LOCATION Config\MonitorSetup --HOOKTO --Monitor lua _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('A-10C Virtual Cockpit Server'); Description = 'Setup for A-10C Virtual Cockpit Server MFCD and CDU Exports.' outlawal2 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I had a similar issue with Helios so I installed it on my laptop and changed the IP in the file to point to the laptop instead of 127.0.0.1 Works great and zero hit on the system hosting dcs.. Manuel Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 I had a similar issue with Helios so I installed it on my laptop and changed the IP in the file to point to the laptop instead of 127.0.0.1 Works great and zero hit on the system hosting dcs.. So I have to set up a second computer just to run helios. Hm, when there is no other possibility, I will give it a try now and report back as soon as I can. Manuel Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Hm I don't really get it now. I set up a laptop which is not connected to the monitors, then run helios on it and run helios also on my main machine with an ip pointing towards the laptop? JG14_Smil Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Enable Aero desktop theme in desktop properties and all will be just fine. 1
Manuel Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Solved it! PC: Asus P8Z77-M Mainboard; Intel i5-3570K (4x3,4Ghz) mit Scythe Mugen 3 CPU Kühler; 16Gb Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz; Nvidia GTX570 1280mb; Samsung 830 SSD; Samsung HDD Flight Sim Gear: TM Warthog; Saitek Pro Pedals; TM Cougars on an 19" screen; TrackIR 5 w/ trackclip pro; Logitech G35 headset
doveman Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Enable Aero desktop theme in desktop properties and all will be just fine. Surely we can use our Custom Themes (under My Themes) and aren't required to use one of the 7 pre-installed Aero Themes (even disabling Windows Sounds changes it to a Custom Theme). There must be something specific that is running when using an Aero Theme that we can check is also enabled under whatever Custom Theme we're using. Maybe dwm.exe? Gadroc Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Yep. Just as long as you don't disable aero effects. Telling people to enable the aero theme is the easiest way to explain how to make sure they are enabled.
doveman Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 To be honest, I'm not sure how to check whether aero effects is enabled or not! I've got a feeling if it says "Windows Color" at the bottom and not "Windows Basic" then it might be OK but is there a better way of checking? Another tip I recall is that it can cause problems if you don't save the Theme after adjusting it and just leave it as "Unsaved Theme". I can't recall the exact issue and I don't think it was specifically related to DCS but I try and make sure I've saved it with something like "Custom 1" anyway. Gadroc Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 If your task bar is semi transparent it is on. There are some config screens where you can check which options are on and off but I'd have to root around a bit to find them.
doveman Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Ah cool, that's a good way to easily tell then, thanks.
