  1. Where do I find the serial number? Are there separate ones on both the throttle and the joystick? I've googled the answer hoping to find a photo showing me but I can't even find any written information.
  2. Yeah, I might build myself a new AMD 5800X system soon but more for music production than gaming/simming and I won't be getting a new graphics card until prices calm down. I note the Link cable works at 2400Mbps (300MBps) and the Quest 2's WiFi only connects at 866Mbps (108MBps) and people say that increasing the Virtual Desktop bitrate over 90MBps doesn't show any benefit. I don't know if the Q2's WiFi is capable of connecting at higher speeds or if my router (BT Smarthub) is limiting it but both the Q2 and the router need to be 4x4 MIMO with 1024 QAM to work at 2166Mbps (which is close enough to the Link speed) https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html Having had a play with wireless VR, I don't think I'd want to use a wired headset so I'm going to return my Q2 for now and wait to see whether they can increase the WiFi speed or if that happens with the Q3 and if they create a native Virtual Desktop/PCVR solution. Hopefully by then GPU prices will have come down, and WiFi 6 routers will be cheaper too. I suffer quite badly with vertigo and motion sickness, so I was surprised I didn't feel nauseous running DCS in VR at 25fps, even in the Black Shark and the Huey, spinning all over the place because I haven't got my pedals or stick plugged in at the moment so I was testing using the keyboard and it's pretty hard to juggle the pedals and cyclic to keep helos straight with the keyboard but I eventually managed to fly in a straight line a few feet above the runway before ascending and flying at random until I got shot down. I felt disorientated rather than dizzy/nauseous, because I felt like I was in the aircraft but I couldn't reach out and touch the controls because they're not really there. I think that might put me off using VR more than anything, as that disconnect is too confusing for my brain! Not specific to DCS but with the Q2 I find the blurriness outside of the center spot quite annoying, as it means I can't easily glance at things by moving my eyes and I have to turn my head to put whatever I want to look at in the center. I also found it quite tricky to position the headset correctly relative to my eyes and keep it in position. I'm short-sighted (around -3.75) with astigmatism, so maybe the positioning is less critical if you don't wear glasses or you buy the lens inserts but if your whole family wears glasses, it's a bit expensive to buy lens inserts for everyone at £45 each.
  3. How do I get DCS (standalone, not Steam) working in proper VR mode using Virtual Desktop? I tried creating a profile for it in Oculus Tray Tool and running it from there and I selected the VR preset and checked that the Enable VR headset box was ticked and but it just runs on a curved screen floating in front of me and there's no headtracking and the control setup doesn't show any headtracking input device. I also noticed that just SteamVR running can push the GPU to 80-90% usage even without DCS running. The Oculus software doesn't recognise any devices connected when using Virtual Desktop but SteamVR does and I can set the resolution, etc. although the controller test doesn't show anything when I press the buttons or move the sticks. EDIT: I found I need to run it via Virtual Desktop Streamer by creating a link/batch file as explained in this thread. Performance was a juddery mess though with my i5-4670k @ 4.3ghz, 32GB RAM and 1070ti though. With the A-10C II starting on the runway I had about 20fps and 49ms frametime. The only thing I changed from the VR preset was to increase Textures and Terrain Textures to High and Cockpit Displays to 1024.
  4. That looks like a bargain for the price but I really want a curved VA panel and the lack of VESA mount would be a problem for me.
  5. That's good to know. Maybe a 32" 4k will be a good option for me then.
  6. Yeah, I've always felt ultrawides are too short for my liking and feel like you're looking through a slot but a 38" 3840*1600 might be OK. What's the 75hz one that's currently available?
  7. I understand that a 32" 1440 monitor has the same pixel density as a 24" 1080 monitor of 93 PPI. I guess my 1920x1200 24" will be a bit higher. This review suggests the 109 PPI of a 27" QHD monitor is ideal. 32" 4k has 137 PPI. There's certainly a range of opinions, some people find 32" 4K fine, others say you need at least 40". I know someone who's happily using a 28" 4k. I'm sure I'd have to use some scaling for 4k. For games, 4k is 1080p ^2 but 1440p doesn't have a round number of pixels to upscale to 4k, so I'm not sure how well that would work or if I'd find I could only play games at 1080p or 4k. Of course 4K makes the DCS cockpits look better but then it makes spotting enemy aircraft harder, so I might find I prefer running DCS at 1080p whatever monitor I get and I wonder whether that will upscale better on a 1440p or 4k monitor. I've always thought curved TVs were a bit daft but having read some reviews of 32" curved monitors it does seem like a good idea when sitting fairly close, both ergonomically and for a bit more immersion, so I'll probably get a curved screen.
  8. It seems the AOC AG322QCX has been replaced by the AG322QC4, which has added HDR400 and Freesync2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-AG322QC4-31-5-Inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B07D2VFL34 However there's also the CQ32G1, which only has Freesync1, no HDR400 and the stand only has tilt, no height or swivel, but is £100 cheaper. As I'll probably be buying a monitor arm anyway, the lack of adjustment isn't really an issue for me. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-CQ32G1-Widescreen-Monitor-2560x1440/dp/B07NPHZQTP Apart from that they seem to be the same but there doesn't seem to be any reviews of the G1 available yet so I can't be sure and I'm also not sure if Freesync1 would have any disadvantages when used with a Nvidia card like my 1070ti.
  9. I'd probably do the same if I only used my PC for DCS tbh. It's no secret that spotting gets harder the higher the res and spotting is pretty important in a combat sim (unless you enjoy getting shot down!). I guess I could still run DCS at 1080p and let the monitor upscale, although I'll sacrifice the sharpness of a native 1080p monitor. Hopefully one day ED can find a way to make spotting no harder at higher resolutions.
  10. Yeah, I'm reading this in a few places now. It would have been nice to have something that I can run at 4K for productivity and games that I can run at that res, whilst also running at lower res for other games but I guess I'll have to decide what's most important. It may be that a 32" 4k desktop is too hard for me to see properly without scaling and that will defeat the whole point from a productivity POV I suppose. Also my 1070ti probably can't handle many games at 4k and it will just be harder to spot planes in DCS at 4k, plus the only affordable adaptive-sync 4k monitors only go up to 60hz, so I think on balance a 1440p monitor is probably a better option. Will my 1070ti be able to run DCS at 1440p at 120-144hz at high settings (most things on High/Max except AA and shadows)? How about other games, like Witcher 3, Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, etc? I just want to make sure I don't give too much weight to 120-144hz if I won't be able to run at that framerate anyway.
  11. Thanks, that looks pretty decent. It's not available on Amazon though which is a shame, as with monitors it's nice to have an easy return option in case they're defective. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-AG322QCX-Widescreen-Multimedia-Monitor/dp/B06Y41FB46/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ag322qcx&qid=1553825712&s=gateway&sr=8-1 Actually it doesn't appear to be available anywhere in the UK unfortunately. Can you tell me if the VESA mounting point is in the centre, as I understand some mounting arms will only work with central mounting points?
  12. What do you mean by "the same real state, but with smaller pixels"? Obviously a 32" 4k screen is bigger than my current 24" 1080p and whilst the 4k has many more pixels, can't I just make windows bigger or even run at 1080p or 1440p and let the monitor upscale? I'm surprised you have to use 225% scaling on a 35" 1440p. It just seems very high. I'm not really keen on ultrawide screens. I find them too narrow for my liking.
  13. I'm currently running a 24" Dell U2412M and I'm finding myself squinting at it quite a lot these days, so I need to upgrade. Comparing to a 28" diagonal doesn't seem that much bigger, so I think I need a 32". Sitting up straight my head's about 90-95cm away from the monitor, so a 43" TV would be too big I think. One day I'll build a proper cockpit with a big TV screen or 3! I want to get a VA as the superior contrast/black levels over IPS is nice for night flights. This will be my main desktop monitor so flight simming isn't the only thing I need it for but I don't do colour critical photography work, so I guess I probably won't notice if the colours are a bit inferior to IPS. I'm thinking 4k will be useful for productivity even if I can't run games at that resolution with my 1070ti, although maybe DCS and other flight sims will run at 4k@30hz? Presumably it will upscale anything I run at 1080p or 1440p without issue? I don't do twitch gaming as I suffer from quite bad motion sickness and can't even play Assassin's Creed for more than a couple of hours on my 60hz TV and some games trigger it even sooner. So I'm not sure I have any need for a 120/144hz monitor and I know 4k high refresh rate monitors are out of my budget but I think most 2k monitors are 120/144hz now, so if I got a 2k monitor I'd probably run games at the higher refresh rate if my GPU can handle it. I guess something with Freesync that works with the 1070ti might be nice but I've never experienced Freesync so can't really say if I need it. I know some monitors like my Dad's BenQ feature low blue light for reduced eye strain, so that might be nice to have. Budget I'm thinking £300-500. I want to mount it on a monitor arm, so a central VESA mount point is important. What I want to do is be able to move the 32" from the normal height to a higher position for flight simming and position my touchscreen below it. If I had a dual monitor arm like this (I know this one only supports up to 27") mounted off to the side of the desk, would that allow me to move the main monitor up and down vertically without it moving in any other direction and then bring the second monitor in from the side to underneath the main one, so it's touching the desk and angled back about 45-60 degrees so that the upper monitor doesn't have to sit too high, or would I need two separate arms to do that? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DJPX8XB?pf_rd_p=330fbd82-d4fe-42e5-9c16-d4b886747c64&pf_rd_r=CJQ1T89PCA1WTWK1ZHRS
  14. Thanks I tried that with no joy but deleting autoexec.cfg fixed it. Not sure why as it doesn't contain anything about Ultra or Extreme if not input then input = {} end input.use_read_thread = false options.graphics.Camera = { Low = { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 150000; structures = {30, 2000}; trees = {1000, 1500}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5}; objects = {3000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {10000, 50000}; lights = {50, 10000}; districtobjects = {100, 100}; districts = {2000, 2000}; lodMult = 1; lodAdd = 100; }; Medium = { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 150000; structures = {35, 10000}; trees = {1000, 6000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5}; objects = {3000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {14000, 80000}; lights = {100, 30000}; districtobjects = {300, 300}; districts = {6000, 6000}; lodMult = 1.5; lodAdd = 0; }; High = { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 150000; structures = {40, 20000}; trees = {1000, 12000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5}; objects = {5000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {20000, 80000}; lights = {200, 80000}; districtobjects = {400, 400}; districts = {12000, 12000}; lodMult = 1.0; lodAdd = 0; }; }
  15. I've just upgraded to a 1070ti so naturally I wanted to crank the settings up but if I set the Visibility Range to Ultra or Extreme I just get a black screen, with the only thing visible being the labels! Turning it down to High fixes the problem. What would be causing this? Is there something in my Saved Games/DCS folder that could cause this?
  16. Can anyone help me please? I've installed my new GPU now and I don't want to waste more activations if it's going to just prompt me to do them again each time I run DCS. I'm also still getting the error with FC3 about the time being wrong so I can't activate that at all.
  17. So I managed to downgrade it back to v2.5.2.20785 using the command line after deleting Persian Gulf to make room. Now it needs to update to 2.5.3.22176 but needs 35GB and I've only got 19GB free, so I'll have to delete Persian Gulf again and update after the free trial has ended so it doesn't redownload it. Anyway, now that's sorted I still need to know what to do about the activation problems.
  18. I doubt it's related but another issue I just noticed is that I'm still using the openbeta and it's using the Saved Games\DCS.openbeta folder even though I could have sworn I switched to stable using SkateZilla's Updater GUI but apparently I'm running 2.5.3.22176 and the latest stable is 2.5.2.21708. Checking in the registry shows that Current User\Software\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\DCS World is pointing to "S:\Games\DCS World" which is my only install. There's also a key for DCS World Openbeta but that points to the non-existent "F:\Games\DCS World Openbeta", so I'm not sure what's going on there.
  19. It was probably just bad luck but when I went to try DCS for the free weekend, it said I needed to reactivate all my modules. This seemed to work for everything until I got to FC3 when it insisted my system clock was wrong, so I had to exit and couldn't load DCS. I did change my RAM recently, from 4*4GB to 2*8GB but I didn't think that would be enough. I then tried again and it told me to reactivate all my modules again and I again had the problem when it got to FC3, so I've wasted two activations on some of my modules (I only activated some before it got to FC3, so the rest would have been after). I managed to get into DCS without activating somehow and Module Manager shows the serial numbers for the modules I've bought and I can fly the KA-50, which it isn't prompting me to reactivate, but nothing else. I'm getting a new GPU tomorrow, so I'm worried that even if I fix the problem now I'll have to reactivate again after changing the GPU, so I'd be grateful if someone could advise me what to do. Should I run these .reg files for my modules (other than KA-50/BS2) to clear the registry to start with or will that just waste another activation? https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/564/#1780273
  20. With the A-10C training missions, when I click on the "Start" button it takes 5-10s before the loading screen appears, so I'm left wondering if it's actually registered the click. I'm running from SSD so it's not a slow HDD that's causing this. Ideally the delay could be reduced to 1-2s as that would be quick enough that users wouldn't notice but if that's not possible couldn't the button at least change to say "Starting" when you click on it to show that it's registered?
  21. First I had an issue with the HOTAS fundamentals mission, at the point where it told me to put the HUD target marker in the flashing yellow box. I tried for ages but it wouldn't trigger so I had to abandon the mission. It's a bit weird as the box isn't fixed on the HUD, so depending on the angle I'm looking at the HUD from the box is over different parts of the land or even over the sea, so I'm not sure how the mission can identify when you've got the marker in the right place. I tried the mission a couple of days later however and it worked straight away this time. Then yesterday I tried the start-up mission and when it told me to press the EGI button as shown here https://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=75621&d=1357597793 it wouldn't activate. I tried clicking it, holding it down for a bit in case the trigger was slow to recognise I'd clicked it, repeatedly clicking it but nothing worked. The TISL and ILS buttons lit up when I clicked them but not the EGI button. So again I had to abandon the mission without completing it. Now I don't really want to waste my time trying any of them as I fear this is going to keep happening.
  22. I'm running 2.5.2. I've only got an AMD 6950 2GB for now but the rest of my system's OK (i5 4670k @4.3Ghz, 16GB RAM, SSD). Even with the settings on mostly low I'm only getting about 25fps, even though the GPU is only at 50% and the CPU at 22%. If I look down into the aircraft so the outside view isn't view it climbs a bit to around 32fps. I've attached two screenshots from today in the A-10C under Win10. There's also two screenshots from a few days ago in the KA-50 under Win8.1 with different settings in the third post on this thread. I also had the DCS stats showing then but they don't mean anything to me and it shows video mem around 6GB even though I've only got 2GB! https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=207338
  23. That's a good idea using the slider for zoom as I find I need to use that quite a bit. I don't think my headtracker is really setup properly yet as I'm finding it quite difficult to get a good view of the HUD but I'm sure I just need to tweak the settings. The mission is the HOTAS fundamentals training mission and it's the bit where it tells you to slew the pipper on the HUD and designate the SPI with TMS Up. It actually worked today when I tried it but I'm sure it must have been fluke, as the box it tells you to put the pipper in isn't fixed on the HUD, so for example if I'm looking straight on it will be over land but if the pilot's head is to the right a bit the box is over the sea. Anyway, it's only an issue when training 'cos there won't be any such boxes normally. It's just frustrating when you run into these bugs during training and can't complete the mission, especially as you can't save it so you have to start from scratch to retry it.
  24. That's quite an improvement. I imagine MP is the most resource-hungry scenario. Maybe they'll change the recommended specs once it's out of OB.
  25. Ah, well if that's the case then great. However the recommended specs do say 32GB, so I'm wondering if your tests weren't fully pushing it. Maybe with certain maps it needs more for instance? It would be good to hear from some other users. Sent from my ZUK Z2132 using Tapatalk
