Maddog is an active missile that's searching for any target it will find. SPAMRAAM is a term regarding F-15 players shooting all their missiles hoping to get a kill.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Increasingly popular behavior among F15 fans since ED decided to "realistically upgrade" AIM-120's seeker according to report from AA kills against third world country fighters. Oh, and ejecting from burning plane is now regarded as cowardice - spam, spam, spamraaaaam - yeeeeeehhaaaaaaaaa! :D

But hey, if it's the only way for ED to survive, I'm all for it! Honestly! :)

Are you kidding? People have been using the tactic ever since Lockon came out. Back then the R-27ET could pick up a target from 20km out if the target was simply somewhere in front of the missile and it would most likely score a kill. It doesn't really matter which missile it is, if there is a chance the missile will get a kill while the players aircraft is disabled, then some players think its a great idea to spam all of their missiles off the rail trying to get that kill.

I don't even know how spamming could become popular. It's a waste of missiles. They will either all miss, or you'll just get the same effect as firing 2, 3 at best.

I'd also add that Maddog is a "real" term used by actual pilots, while spamraam is only something sim players talk about.

What's wrong with you all? Spamraaming is great for trolling. My favorite is typing in chat "which one of those eight missiles hit?" or "I fired all 8 amraams are you feeling lucky punk?". Those lines are very effective on the 51st lol.

No, I'm (almost :)) dead serious. Agree for R-27ET, but that was not what the OP asked.

BTW, according to your passion about the subject it seems that the new modelling of AMRAAM is plain ole' revenge for Uber R-27ET spam from LOMAC times?

So who is kidding then?

What revenge? The actives have specific maddog functionality; if the target isn't right in front of them they won't pick it up. There's no search logic for maddogging, just a 10 deg scan about the boresight.

Grimes' point is that people will spam whatever they can ... this includes R-27ERs but hey, that's ok because the 120 is uber or something so just don't spam 120's.

No the new modeling for the AMRAAM is making it correct like it should be. The problem is some people are butt hurt about it. Everyone cries realism but then whines when its given to them. But hey ED is biased right?
