Winger Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Hello Guys, could anyone please tell me how to locate a plane that is broadcast to me by awacs via bullseye. What do the three numbers mean that i get told. Is that correct? 270 (direction from bullseye in degree) for 160 (direction the bandit is flying to in degree) at 6000 (height in feet) Also what exactly does it mean when i ask for "bogey dope"? Thanks a lot! winger
Speed Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) If you hear "270 for 160 at 6000" over the radio, it could mean one of two different things, depending on if the country you're flying for uses metric or not. If flying for US: 270 degrees from the common bullseye reference point at a range of 160 nautical miles, at an altitude of 6000 feet. Also commonly included is the aspect- "hot" is coming towards you, "cold" is going away. If flying for Russia: 270 degrees from the common bullseye reference point at 160 kilometers, at an altitude of 6000 meters. Bogey Dope should give you the nearest bandit (though you would think it would give you the nearest bogey- but in DCS I don't think there are bogeys). Used correctly: Bogey- unidentified aircraft Bandit- confirmed hostile aircraft Edited January 11, 2013 by Speed Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. badger66 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 BRA B-Bearing . R-Range . A-Altitude . Can also be in miles , instead of metrics .
arteedecco Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 In FC3 flying the F-15 or Su-27... how do you use that information since AFAIK there's no bullseye reference unless the mission planner A.) was kind enough to put one of your WP at or very near bullseye and B.) they bothered to mention that fact in the mission briefing (letting you know which wp it's near). Even with that.. if you're not AT the correct WP... I suppose your'e left to using F10 and the measurement tool... assuming bullseye is depicted OR you can ascertain where your WP that is collocated with bullseye is on the map? Or is there a real simple way (fingers crossed)??? Speed Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Anyone? How to determine position from bullseye in FC3??? You can do it if the server host is running Slmod with the coordinate converter enabled. Other than that... F10 map? Winger Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Anyone? How to determine position from bullseye in FC3??? 1. Ask awacs. (request vector to bullseye) 2. Try and orient on landmarks. Thats the only possibilities if youself arent displayed on the map.
Dejjvid Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Anyone? How to determine position from bullseye in FC3??? You can't. There's no bullseye on F10 map :D :joystick: Calculating where your target is with vector and a bullseye call with dead reckoning is waaay beyond my capabilites in a stressful situation. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
Meatwod Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 You can't. There's no bullseye on F10 map :D :joystick: Calculating where your target is with vector and a bullseye call with dead reckoning is waaay beyond my capabilites in a stressful situation. If you played Falcon 4, you know how this is done. However, DCS doesn't display bullseye on the hud or radar, so it isn't useful information. For Falcon, your AC current bullseye location is displayed on the HUD. The radar cursor shows the current location of your targets bullseye. The HSD (moving map) has a small icon that looks like a bullsyeye that also indicates bearing and range. But as has been stated before, the best thing to do is ask for vector to nearest bandit, since bullseye are of know use until better avionics are implemented.
