fitness88 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) Coming from flying Janes F/A-18 with all its high tech visual references for navigation, I realised if I wanted to fly the American planes in Flaming Cliffs I would be HSI dependant for that purpose. At night or in fog, when VFR is not possible, I was pleasantly surprised to find the Russian planes have some good electronic visual references for navigation on the HDD. They show the runways, waypoints with WP flight paths, ILS flight director. Even though I'm comfortable using the HSI, I find the Russian planes have a great advantage in navigational situation awareness which can be a great tactical advantage. I understand this sim's focus is on flight and combat modelling, but it's still nice seeing at a glance exactly where you are in reference to all the runways in your theatre of operation as well as it being easier to flight co-ordinate with other friendlies. I would like to hear from some of the pilots who have flown both Russian and American planes and get their input. Thank you. Edited January 20, 2013 by fitness88

Grigs Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 As I understand your initial post, you are happy about the HDD in the Su-27's cockpit in navigation mode: I was surprised to read that since the F/A-18's MFD (which you can see in the picture I posted earlier) can display a map for navigation with colors, reliefs, waypoints, and several different overlays. To me, this is even better than Su-27's navigation system on HDD =)

To me, this is even better than Su-27's navigation system on HDD =) Yes we are saying the same thing...Jane's F/A-18 display is far superior to all. However in FC, the Russian's have the better nav.

Thanks for the info, I was surprised that the F-15 didn't be display any graphic Nav details.
