What I don't get is, devs focusing on developing training aircraft for DCS (C101, Hawk, etc) rather than older actual combat aircraft eg. A4, F105, A6, etc. I mean, these a/c saw a lot of action in Vietnam whereas the Hawk/C101/etc really haven't (maybe in Sth America, I dunno).

Have you actually read any threads on this forum? The reasoning behind the choices of planes has been explained ad nauseaum... Folks can understand them or not, but the explanations have been quite clear...

I am normally a "modern air combat ONLY" guy, but Vietnam I can honestly say I would be down for. Probably because I know so many real life vets of that war.

It would have to be done right though. I want autogen trees so thick you can smell the jungle humidity coming out of your computer's air vents... I want napalm that wipes out swaths of forest and anything unlucky enough to be living there... I want to hop in my Huey and feel the danger of gunmen I cannot see, lurking below me in the somewhat peaceful village.

I also want carrier ops with the Phantom, the Corsair, the Intruder... and the Skyhawk. Hell you can even give me the Sandy and I will be happy with that.

I think a map like that should also have to include Laos and Cambodia, since a lot of action that we rarely hear about took place over those lines.

There are numerous threads about f4's: as much as we want one, getting it done well just hasn't happened sadly. If the primary concern is over multi-crew, I would be equally happy flying an a-1 or f105.

Specifically the thud - don't forget the manufacturer Republic Fairchild also Made the a-10 so it's fair to say there's a good relationship with them already. Also, given that the thud is no longer in service anywhere I doubt there would be any security/licensing issues???

Here's hoping...

This.

I reckon the Thud did the lion's share of bombing in North Vietnam for the USAF. Plus it also did Wild Weasel missions as well.
