Now, back to this classic question again, what do you think about these 2 TM HOTAS in terms of Universal usage across all flight simulators? For Falcon BMS Cougar is the winner, for DCS A-10C the warthog of course, but let's say if you only wanna use one HOTAS for everything, which one will you choose? Say what about flying A10 with a cougar? You are missing one HAT. Flying BMS with a warthog, you are missing all the hand on rotaries. Seems to be warthog has more usage 'cause you got a F16 stick plus a F15E throttle, but no hand on rotaries is a pain; Airliners can be flown with anything cause there isn't that much of demanding maneuvers, you sit back and watch most of the time, yoke isn't really necessary, let's say only for Cessna school teaching though; Aerobatics are fun to fly, but both jet sticks will do. And what about flying helos? A rudder is a must then, but you never find the right collective control. Heard VBS is making some real helo controls, but that'll be helo only after that. The only compromised universal solution so far is the Logitech G940, but the feedback of G940 isn't so promising either.

May I hear your thoughts on this, please?

Well my two cents from someone who is packing a cougar hoping to sell it and have just made the leap for the warthog, is that the warthog would be the most universal hotas. The reasoning beeing that it has more controls to map. The cougar is not only missing a hat, excluding the throttle base, you have on the warthog throttle 3 extra 3 position switches 2 (ON-ON-ON) and one (MON-ON-MOM), also 2 hats on the warthog one on the stick and one on the throttle have push down funtions. The missing rotaries are somewhat unfortunate but for western fighters I belive only the F-16 has 2 rotaries the F-15,F-18 etc only have one rotary on the throttle. If you ask me for the radar antenna you can very well do with the rotary on the warthog throttle base, it's close to the hand easy to find without looking and you'd use it on long range scans to adjust your radar coverage where in my opinion taking the hand off the throttle for a couple of seconds won't hurt you. For the range knob (flying an F-16), and for the antenna if you really must have it on the throttle leavers themselfs, you can use the free hat or the other switches left free on the throttle to program them as presses. I find it doesn't really hurt to use this functions in this manner.

So my vote is on the Hog. But like I said... Cougar is for sale... lol!

I hate to bring up old topics... I currently have a stock cougar that I have had for about 10ish years now. The Antenna dial never worked for some reason and I never figured that out... I am rebuilding a sim and on the fence if I should replace it with the warthog or not. I will be flying mostly F16, F15, and A10.

I have heard that Stock Cougar sucks and that is what I have but I find it to be ok with it's quirks. I have also heard that Warthog was great except for the center stick issue. How bad are the warthog issues?

From Warthog users, is it annoying playing BMS without the throttle mouse?

Would you say warthog stick is on par or superior to the Cougar stick?

I played BMS with CH, cougar and the warthog and I'll take a Warthog over the cougar. The warthog stick is amazing and is the smoothest I have used. I had zero problems with the buttons or lack or rotaries. The cougar I had was a uber modded one and it was very nice. I tested both sticks it out by doing air to air refueling. I was able to connect faster with the warthog and do it more smoothly. I flew BMS for years with CH and CH fraken-Potato, I had no problems with setting up my stick to do what I needed it to do. I haven't been able to get very many hours in BMS with the warthog. The few hours I have with it, I haven't had a problem. I've flown DCS Ka-50 and the FC F-15 with no problems with the warthog.

If you set it up right, you won't have any problems with it at all.

It's a no brainer for me. It has to be the Warthog. Do F-16 pilots get all those rotaries on their sticks?

But really, I am so biased towards DCS World now, that I don't really fly anything else.

Thanks for the replies!

After a lot of reading I am going to pick up the Warthog. I have always had a few minor issues with the cougar throttle and now I am also looking forward to this smooth stick control with the Warthog.

Since I am re-building my sim in the basement this will be like a new plane.

I will reply with a comparison afterwards.
