Alfa Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Caution comrade, American RWR has significant advantages over its russian counterpart. One of them is the ability to see all threats at the same time which is not possible on the Russian warning receiver as it's capable of displaying only one primary threat and one secondary threat at a time. This could make the difference between life and death in a target enriched environment. TEWS provides a much better overall SA. There is also another 'weakness'. Russian RWR will always give priority to a 'hard lock' even if there is a much closer threat 'painting' you. This could potentially spoil your SA against TWS/AMRAAM threats until it goes 'pitbull'. "Caution comrade" - I realise that the SPO-15 "Beryoza" is currently the only Russian RWR in the sim, but its not the only Russian RWS around :) . The newer generation L-150 "Pastel" RWS is similar in capability/functionality to "Western" systems. The Su-27SM upgrade has this instead of the "Beryoza", so with the announced module I would assume we will see some representation of the "Pastel" in the sim. JJ
willzah1313 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 F15 has a stealth attack.. called visual contact and sidewinders ;)
EtherealN Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 meh TWS is not that great. Your radar is on . They can hear you pinging them. They can hear the 120 go active And the 'lock' is weak, if they make a sharp turn or go high/down you lose them :-( If they dont know you are there when you are closr, they are dead even if you STT. Hearing 120 go active is of limited use as long as the shot isnt "stupid". (No rMax shot, not an offset shot etc). At that point they have only seconds to react; Slammers and R-77s are deafeated in the early stage, before pitbull. Regarding keeping lock, it has the same limitations as STT. It is not any more vulnerable. Thanks for the enlightening information Alfa, as usual :) I was referring to the sim solely though. The Su-27SM is my all time favorite fighter, can't wait to put my hands on her... Maximus_Lazarus Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 Sidewinders ? Man i think you're better off with cannons :) But seriously, being able to attack multiple targets is a huge advantage, but everything else i prefer the mig For instance Awacs assistance , and you get this little map on the same screen. Maximus_Lazarus Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Did the scanning zone (width) always decreased when going into TWS mode ? I don't remember it doing that, but now when i go into TWS it goes my width scan zone decreases by half. I also can't INcrease it again with Right Control + = , only when going back into STT mode will it change back. Also, can i scan left and right with the F15, like you can with the mig ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 It's limited to a 60 deg azimuth, you cannot increase it. ANd yes, you can scan left and right ... try moving the TDC. Maximus_Lazarus Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Allright so it's true that the STT mode has a larger scan angle (width) than TWS mode does ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 The STT mode has no scan angle. If you mean RWS, then yes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Oberst Zeisig Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Yes, though I'm not sure if the total is 10 degrees or 20, I forget. (That was a question about the vertical field of view of the F-15 radar in degrees) That information would be quite useful for me too, to get an imagination (probably with the degree ladder on the hud as reference) how hughe the scan area really is. So when you know about where the enemy is or You last saw him You get a very much better SA. According to my calculations with the given elevation at a given TDC-range this vertical scan angle should be about 9 degrees. Could this be correct?
