fitness88 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) Navigation in the F15 is not easy as in the Russian aircraft due to them having pre-programmed waypoints for all the airfields which helps to line up with the ILSN. Just using ILSN without another WP in front to give you an approach line makes it tough especially in limited visibility. Is it possible to build this type of WP template into the mission builder for all planes to use? I know you can do it for any and all airfields for one plane but then it's not accessable to the others. Also you will need documentation. Thank you. Edited February 16, 2013 by fitness88
blkspade Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 The process of navigating in the F-15, is different but really isn't all that difficult. That being said it is also likely that these differences exist as apart of them being an accurate representation to their real-life counterparts. Pressing the 1 key cycles between NAV and ILSN, then you cycle through airfields. Using the radio commands to communicate with the desired ATC gives you pretty accurate info to extrapolate from which way to cycle your ISLN waypoints to. http://104thphoenix.com/
GGTharos Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I'm not sure if the Russian nav representation is at all realistic (the data-link isn't). The F-15's navigation is missing a lot of stuff like the SIT display on the MPCD among other things. Unfortunately there is no consistant airport ILSN numbering that allows for you to know which airport you have chosen on the HUD. You need to as you say extrapolate the info and see if it fits your heading and distance to the the ATC call out. Of course that's the not the most difficult thing to do. Also I am not sure where calling into ATC 'inbound' and 'azmith' and 'request landing' actually takes you to realative to the runway. You should be able to be in good order to line up with the localizer or runway from what ATC calls out.
blkspade Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I know there are things missing, that we will probably never see with the FC3 aircraft. I would like to believe that for the most part things are semi-accurate, in that more stuff is missing as opposed to things included came from the developers imagination. The inbound call in combination with appropriately setting up ILSN, pretty much always puts you where you need to be for approach. Honestly I find the lack in ability to cycle backwards more annoying, than the lack of definitive data about where you're pointing. This is mostly due to the rare occasion I've rushed past my desired waypoint. The extrapolation method only gets confusing when having to choose between Kras center and Paskovsky. http://104thphoenix.com/

Yes I prefer technical accuracy over anything else. Unfortunately I don't know what is or is not accurate compared to real world, both from the stand point of what there is in the sim and what there should be that is missing. It's frustrating studying the manual and trying to apply whats been taught only to be frustrated when it doesn't work. It's hard to know if I'm making a mistake or it's a bug. Cycling backward would be great! Also can you be more specific about the explanation for ATC 'inbound' and 'azmith' and 'request landing' I really would like to know exactly what the 3 mean...I have a confused idea.
