Hadn't been out in the P-51D for a while, as I had been spending my time with the Ka-50, so I decided to take the Mustang out for a spin on the Virtual Aerobatics server. Shortly after take off, during a pass of the airfield, the engine seized up on me...

Not sure of the cause; it's possible I was overboosting the engine (high manifold pressure at low RPM).

Windows 10 Home, Intel Core i7-9700K @ 4.6GHz, Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (8GB VRAM) on 34" LG curved monitor @ 3440x1440, 32GB RAM, TrackIR 3 (with Vector Expansion), Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Pedals, Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs.

Correct. At 2300RPM you shouldn't be boosting the engine up to any more than ~35 inHg. You were doing 50 inHg. :) Even at maximum continuous RPM (2700) that would be considered overboosting.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Thanks for confirming. I was a bit rusty when I took her up, will look out for that in future; I'm just glad I got her down in one piece!

In case you're ever unsure, there's a placard with typical power settings on the right cockpit wall along with their maximum permitted times.
