Is this in 1.2.2?

 

I can't watch a track right now so can you describe the shot parameters?

 

Your altitude speed, target speed, target bearing, range, altitude and aspect when you took the shot.

Target was moving across path at 3km (ish) and 400kph(?). It was coming it to land. I fired from 2000ft, it was at 1000ft (ish). I think the missile turned to move with the MiG-25 but then the MiG slowed down, as it was landing, and the missile over-turned and lost track maybe. My best guess anyway.

 

Yes it's 1.2.2. Can't be sure it's the very latest load but recent enough.

Ok, 3km is too far for the 1.2.2 sidewinder. The 1.2.3 sidewinder is more realistic and should be able to make that shot; I'm assuming this was a problem brought on by PN.

 

Try again in 1.2.3, you should see much better results.

Hmm. Just tried the auto updater, didn't do anything, so I must have the latest version already.

Proportional navigation. In its fairly pure form, it will cause the missile to turn as the missile gains and loses speed. In order to intercept a constant-speed, medium aspect target, when the missile is at slow speed, it needs more lead. As it gains speed, it decreases lead.

 

More advanced forms of guidance don't have this problem, and it is something that makes the 120 and 77 very deadly missiles compared to older generations of missiles at range - but for now, all we have in DCSW is good old PN.

It's going to be a couple of hours before the files are released to the autoupdater - it's a separate process, but it should happen today.

Upgraded to 1.2.3. Now it seems to generate successful hits at 4.5km, however, there's some odd bore-sight jumping between aircraft, not sure if that's a feature of the missile. or not.

 

Also the map icons are now showing crappy symbols for aircraft that don't show direction and sometimes the tool tip for the menu buttons at the top appear off screen. All in all the map is worse.
