Frostie Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) If the guy had apologised for causing offence but stood his ground in word choice I would have left it alone, but he chose to disrespect my view with insults and arrogant denial. He's clearly suited to his selection of word. I should clarify I'm not wound up by this just trying to educate the offender. If I was angry this page would be green. Bahger Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 When I saw the title of the post, in obnoxious caps, no less, I shuddered at the crassness of it. Then on further investigation, it turns out that the perpetrator sees absolutely nothing questionable about his poor taste, refuses to admit that he may have misjudged the tone of this community (having been a member of it for five minutes)...and he expresses himself in writing like a ten year-old. Amazing, these things always go hand-in-hand in Internet gaming communities but we should be grateful to have been free of it around here for most of the time. Present instance excepted, of course.
RIPTIDE Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Never had any of this in FC2. I think it's that Falcon crowd blowins into DCS that brings the bad element with it, for shame. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Speed Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Chameleon, all the fighting aside, you would probably do well to change the name of the missions. I was avoiding this thread until now simply because I thought that any mission going under the header WANKERCRAFT couldn't possibly be good. I'm not from the UK, and I don't even know what a wanker is (though I have some guesses, we *never* use that word in the US, and I've never bothered to look it up), all I knew was, from reading some British literature, it meant something dirty. And people who give their missions dirty names probably do not have good missions. So I'm a little surprised that, from the people who played the missions, they have something good to say. Maybe it's worth my time checking out the missions then. Chameleon, just understand that, whether or not you think the name is offensive is irrelevant. The fact is, people are avoiding these missions because of how you have named them. A perfect example would be me- I am not offended by the name, and yet I almost completely ignored this thread simply because of the negative connotation I have of the word "wanker" from the few times I've read or heard British people using it. I instantly judged the book by its cover and made some negative assumptions about the quality of the missions. JMBT1963 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) A few questions to everyone who's looked at this post: #1 Why did you look at the post ?, was it because you were quietly sniggering at the name or it offended you. #2 If it offended you then I would have thought the number one priority would have been to inform the moderators. #3 If the moderators found it offensive then surely they would have asked for the name change, as far as I can see they have not, YET. #4 As for being on monitors at work, in my day I went to work TO WORK, not look at gaming sites or porn. #5 Yes it's probably not the best choice of name for a group of missions, but if everyone didn't have their mind already in the gutter then there would be no problem. #6 I personally know someone with a surname called Wanka and SHE is one of the nicest 70 year old ladies you could ever meet. #7 In Germany, Nederlands, Belgium etc I'm sure you will find the spelling of Wanker, in fact as I'm looking at the online version of the Eisenach (Germany) phone book I can find 4 such names. And finally Gentlemen and Ladies GROW UP and stop being so petty Edited March 15, 2013 by JMBT1963
Bahger Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Another 11-post "veteran" dispensing wisdom. Let me put it this way: It's the equivalent of someone being invited to a house whose occupants he doesn't know very well. He runs into their living room carrying something in a box. "LOOK!", he says, "I MADE SOMETHING THAT'S REALLY GOOD! I WANT YOU TO SEE IT! IT'S CALLED WANKER!!" Everybody in the room just looks at the guy, astonished by his crassness. "Don't you think you should change the name?", one of them asks, ""Because most of us find it to be in questionable taste and you won't find words like that being thrown around in here." "WHAT DO YOU MEAN??" yells the guy with the box, "I THINK IT'S FUNNY! IT'S NAMED AFTER SOMETHING ELSE CALLED WANKER AND THAT'S FUNNY TOO! IF YOU DON'T FIND IT FUNNY, YOU ARE IMMATURE AND PROBABLY A RELIGIOUS PERSON! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE THING IN THE BOX, THEN JUST LEAVE YOUR HOUSE! I'LL HANG AROUND FOR A WHILE THOUGH, SEE WHAT'S ON TV." JMBT 1963, you are missing the point. The point is this: most communities have certain standards of expression and conduct that do not have to be aggressively policed; the community polices itself, that is the mark of a mature community. Look at these boards, at all the forums and posts, everywhere; you will not see any crass behavior or vulgar language because that is the standard which this community appears to have adopted by consensus. In my ten years here, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times that mods have had to intervene because the discourse in forum threads has become vulgar, abusive, or crass. It doesn't matter how offended you think we should be -- or not -- by the OP's choice of name for his mission pack. What matters is that most of us who have been here a while would rather he not lower the standards that have existed here for many years by naming a mission pack WANKERCRAFT, because it is crass, unnecessary and tone-deaf. Adi Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 hes also my :pilotfly: and we :joystick: together on wankercraft.org.:megalol: LoL If the mission is good, I'm sure we can get over the name.
JMBT1963 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Bahger, I won't get involved with a flame war which is what this is quickly becoming. Just as an aside note: I originally joined this site in I believe 2006 or early 2007, for a long time I played Lockon and then only recently started purchasing the DCS modules. I think the last time I checked my old ED account I had over 2500 posts but that was last year, and I think my rep power was something like 29 or 30. The moral of this story; Don't make a mountain out of a molehill and unless the Moderators say this is an offensive post just ignore it and move on. I hadn't even seen this post until suddenly it's almost flashing at me when I opened the Forum page. As it used to be said; If you don't like the skin don't install it applies like this to this post If you don't like the post IGNORE IT what could be easier than that Edited March 15, 2013 by JMBT1963
Bahger Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) I understand, JMBT1963, and I certainly appreciate the correction re. your time spent here. I don't want a flame war either. I don't even care about this individual or his crassly-named mission pack. The only reason I'm bothering to post is that, occasionally, one feels compelled to defend communal standards that have been violated for no good purpose. Not only did he title this thread "WANKERCRAFT" but he shouted it in all-caps and still refuses to acknowledge why others might be annoyed by the very existence of the thing, staring at them whenever they go into an otherwise well-mannered forum. It's like having a new neighbor who gets annoyed when you object to his dog defecating on your lawn. I'm a parent and a grown up and I resent being accosted by this type of vulgar immaturity in a place where, thankfully, it has never belonged. Edited March 15, 2013 by Bahger
LFCChameleon_Silk Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) Ok, obviously do want a flame war cause you can't leave it go. I already said it was not intended to be offensive, and no i will not change the name unless a moderator wants it changed (which i have not received any PM from a moderator nor any reprimand, and hopefully stays that way since it was not my intention) you all seem to think I'm sharing my hard work wanting some kind of rise, the name of the server is all in caps, so that is why my mission pack is all in caps, i mean go tell DRAGON to uncap his mission pack cause its obnoxious... exactly. man some people have a thin skin, personally i think I'd rather cry over some spilled milk, but hey thats my opinion.. thought I'd share since so many opinions are being flung on my thread that you keep derailing which is probably in the rulebook as well, I've also asked that it be left alone, do you see me reporting people for dragging it on... I've already said change the title if its that bad, If i have broken a rule then I am sorry for that as that was never my intention to actually offend anyone, I'm just trying to show you my missions, download at your own risk of warping your childish mind. also you have to look at it this way controversy sells and is why the brand is as popular as it is, yea we could use a name that is less edgy but we would have half the draw as we do now.... does the name attract immature players... no, my whole squadron is very mature and older guys. eminem used controversy to sell records and its no different then what i do with my missions (although actually unintended in this case) he also had the same stuff being slapped on him with what about the kids etc... do you really think any intelligent human being would really be warped by seeing the name of my mission pack? cmon, like i said before get real. get a dose of reality. stop living in a land of dragons and knights in shining armor. as for dissing my grammar, i have a grade 9 education and am 29, does that mean i don't know how to script or to make a mission, no it does not... that is far more of a personal attack then anything i have said in any of the posts I have made on DCS forums, but do you see me clicking report... no. Judging someone by their grammar is like judging a book by its cover and honestly when i come here to waste my time on lost souls to say my point of view i don't really care how well its typed up, some English teachers will write a letter that they will fuss over for a week before sending it, do you think i want to worry about something like that on something so trivial, once again get real, I'm a busy man. fact remains i have a hit counter i know how many have checked it out and i must say thanks for checking it out everyone, it definetly was downloaded far more then i could have ever imagined they would be, and the constant thread bumping is probably to blame... so if its really offensive just let it slide off the front page (where it is right now with me responding to it while its still bumped) so don't say i came to bump it when i did not. I am currently busy scripting in another game engine that for forum rules (most likley) will remain un-named that recently came out in alpha status. I still intend to do more missions for DCS world and when i do this thread will be re-bumped, renamed or not. thanks again to those who can look past something like this and once again i ask that if any mod reading this thinks that it truley is offensive to just rename it to =LFC=, please and thanks. now leave it alone, cause i don't want to keep addressing the same thing and beating the same dead horse, really ridiculous how immature the mature ones can turn out to be, i feel bad for your children to be honest, living in that jail cell of yours. "Your bad grammar and immature, petulant way of expressing yourself, combined with your thickheaded refusal to understand why people might find the title of your mission tasteless and foolish" where did i ever say that I did not understand why some would find it offensive, i have already addressed why its named the way it is and apoligized for the 1 pct of you that can't get your noggin around the name, petulant way of expressing yourself, excuse me? thats more offensive to me then any thread name will ever be maybe its you dude that is tone-deaf and taking my words the way you wish to perceive them, i do wish to fisticuff or combat anyone here, I have said time and time again that this is for my mission postings not for discussion of the packs name, if you want you can create a new thread to discuss the mission packs name, and risk adding more exposure to my brand. thanks. Edited March 19, 2013 by =LFC=Chameleon_Silk and one of the meanings of the word is a despicable person has nothing to do with anything else.
Milli Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Thank you for the missions =LFC=Chameleon_Silk. Keep up the good work. It is appreciated. Regards, Milli
