I've been actively promoting DCS World within our own Swiss community. And since we are hosting a beginner-friendly Fightgenossen.ch Training Server, I have been recording introductory tutorial and gameplay streams to get DCS or Simulation beginners up to speed. Also I personally kind of hate to jump around dozens of 10-Minute Youtube Videos when learning new systems or vehicles/games.

Not meaning to promote or shamelessly advertise here, just welcoming new players to take a look at this resource to get up to speed with the SU25-T and DCS. Obviously people are always welcome to join our server.

The recordings were made while consuming around half a bottle of vodka... to get the authentic russian/SU-25T feeling across. So have mercy with any criticism, but still.. feedback is always welcome.

Hope this seriously eases the beginners' entry into DCS, and somewhat shows that the learning curve is less overwhelming than it might initially seem:

Thanks alot for your interest. ;] What do you mean by S and F bombs?

Oh I guess.. probably Seeking (?) and Freefall Bombs. In any case: Thanks again.

I haven't gotten to thank you for that old PM regarding the fix for SU-25T 6DOF and Angle-Restriction-Removal btw, but it hasn't gotten unnoticed. Just playing Ka-50 mostly, busy with server and other stuff.. Angle-Restriction is most important to me.. but maybe I'll get pissed about missing 6 DOF in formation flight or something, and take the time to verify your fix.

Three Thank-Yous ... Jesus. I guess thats my new personal record for Thank-Yous in a single post. :) I'm getting too friendly. *grumble*

Watched the first 2 minutes of one video...you said "sh**" about 15 times.

Too many expletives for me..........:megalol::megalol:

But thanks anyway:D

I'll make sure to include more of those in future videos then. :P

But IIRC the fecal ratio should decline quite rapidly after those first 2 minutes to make way for other wierd statements and at some point even some brief excursion to the joyful topic of "elefant-penises".

Yes. I know. Don't even ask.

Exactamundo! I don't bother me.. I think it's damn hilarious :megalol:

I love it when people just cut the crap and talk like a real person when doing youtube videos. It should have a "Not for children" warning..Haha! but I doubt this day and age that kids fly study sims.. that requires to much effort.

Cheers for making me chuckle:lol:

Yeah.. I think the part about F'ing up your trim was what did it for me.. It kept me awake and having a good time.

Great Vids. Now I know why I crashed so many missions when using Autopilot. Damn trim and It is nice to know the trim Reset does not work.

I followed along with a bottle of wodka It really helped.

Thanks alot for the positive feedback. Great to hear, and to know that my work or the way it has been done is not vain, i.e. of useless quality or without any "thought" behind it.

This means a lot to me and is much appreciated.

Beginner tutorials FTW. If you do anymore, could you try to keep the camera more stable? When you're the one in control of where you're looking it's not as noticeable, but to a passive viewer the shaky camera is maddening (and gives me a headache!)

I have TIR5. I don't use it. That is why. And I had it set for slow and pause. Just throws me too much aiming. I use the keypad views.

But, I really need to use TIR5 for the Ka-50 with the drop-down reticule aiming lens.

Funny!

You must work construction, those guys sure cuss. That's where I learned all my cuss words. They really flow when I busted my thumb all up with a full swing of my 20 ounce framing hammer. Over time one learns to move thumb!!

These guys should hear you when you get excited flying with you:megalol:

Eh, angry Irish females---my wife, know more cuss words:doh:

Well, I am 4 days into your 1st video! Man, that is a long video. Most of that I already know. I need to learn how to use the weapons. All I am fairly good at is SEAD and getting shot down! I need to fly with you more.

Now I am a movie star! I sound like I talk with marbles in my mouth.

Your missiles will fire better using the HUD's left side vertical bar, within those two bold horizontal marks. Wait until you get in-between those yellow marks. Maybe they are green, I get the colors mixed up. I passed the entrance exam for Annapolis and my color blindness negated that.

The Su-33 will land itself right down to the carrier's catch cable. All I do is drop the hook, landing lights to on (so if anybody is waiting or taking off, they see me), landing flaps, gear, and control speed with throttle, and air brake. Just before the runway threshold I apply full airbrake. What I love about the 25T is that drogue chute. The last 100 feet of vertical height the AP will kick itself off, so if landing it on a runway I can flare it. I am still experimenting with Su25T autopilot, landing it; it does not seem to work good like the Su-33. My 1st Rusky aircraft was the Su-33 because I was using the F4U in WWII air combat. I love Naval aviation. I always use the radio for permission to land or take-off so if something is around, ATC will give me clearance. Some guys totally disregard runway etiquette. If I have access to a working F10 map I also check for aircraft in the area. The 104th server mandates left side of centerline for takeoff and landing in case somebody needs the other side to do same. I like using the 104th and <51> servers as it evens out the playing field in Multiplayer, but the F10 map isn't much help in World.

So, is that mission on your Swiss server? Your server ping rates are pretty high for me, but I'll come over if I don't lag too much on you.

Take care Osram.

Ye.. that's just Track IR... and usually I don't have a "disable" button bound in Track IR, but I'll try to remember that before my next video.

Guess when alt-tabbing, quickly checking something else.. drinking... sneezing.. etc. it can get quite noticeable. If you refer to a constant shaking/movement though, then there is not much I can do about it. Then maybe you are a non-Track IR user... and not used to it's movements?

Hey there DieHard ;) I'm more of an office/IT guy.. but ye. I make sure of cussing enough, wherever I work. Even if it isn't on construction sites. About weapon engagement ranges, not sure if I forgot to talk about those. But I sometimes fire missiles, even if the range is really close to the limits... depending on angle/speed etc... sometimes they can still hit.

The server is located in Switzerland. It is running on my 150Mbps DOWN / 10Mbps UP line right now @ 4.2Ghz i7 2700K, 16GB ram, Geforce 580 GTX. The packet routes don't seem to be too bad either. It should be close to optimum pings... i.e. East coast should be doable at around 120-140ms... it doesn't get much better than that, considering the distance.

Plus in COOP it shouldn't really matter that much. Coop-Flightsims are especially forgiving in that regard. It's not a Multiplayer FPS, or PVP dogfighting. So basically even playing at 300ms ping wouldn't matter a lot.

Question, why don't you use youtube or vimeo? the streaming on this site is REALLY bad, and i get lots of hickups/stagnation in the playback of the video.

Not to mention the fact that the play time indicator does not work, nor can you move back and forth.

Ill try and do my best to sit trough the whole video though.

Some constructive criticism;

In the first video;

You mention the AI don't see your Lights anyway.

This is incorrect, if you fly whit the lights on AI will see and engage you sooner and earlier.

So, i'd suggest to actually turn them off, it DOES make a difference.

Waypoint switching;

In the video you can't select waypoint 1. This is most likely because that waypoint is to close to your position and thus it switches automatically to WP2.

Auto-Pilot tip, you mention that if the waypoints altitude is 0 the AP flies into the ground. Which is correct.

Except, if you engage AP in route follow mode (A) and directly after hit Barometric Altitude Hold mode (Lalt 4) then the AP will follow the route on your current altitude.

AP tip 2, Panic Button, if you hit (Lalt 3) the AP will return the plane to straight and level flight. Regardless of the planes attitude when engaging this mode.

Ofcourse, there must still be enough altitude left for the AP to maneuver to prevent a crash.

AP tip 3/ trim tip, If you **** up the trimming using the AP. And as you said this will happen. Here's a lil trick to sort things out again.

Disengage AP. Move the stick so that roll angle and pitch angle are less then 5 Degrees. (note flight path may still be up/down or whatever)

Hold plane steady and engage AP in Attitude Hold Mode (Lalt 1)

Whit AP in Attitude Hold Mode, now SLOWLY move stick back to center.

Disengage AP and resume level flight, once straight and level hit AP Attitude Hold mode once more, let it settle a bit, and disengage whit the stick centered. Your plane is now trimmed again.

(seems complicated when readying, but its real easy to do.)

AP tip 4, Maneuvering whit the AP on, is in general indeed a bad idea.

Except for two modes.

Barometric Altitude Hold and Radio Altitude Hold (terrain follow mode)

In these two modes you can roll (bank) the aircraft left and right to change your heading.

Don't do this to fast though or the AP can't keep up whit holding your altitude.

How bingo fuel and other warnings are called? Usually either Bitching Betty or Nagging Nadia.:D (think the actual systems name is Ekhran or something similar)

And yes, fuel is displayed in Kilo grams (Kg) in general 1000 kg is enough to RTB from most missions. (fly at 93% Nr is most of the time the most fuel efficient way, higher altitudes also burn less fuel, though you need burn fuel to get up there first. trial and error to accumulate experience is the only way)

About the guided bomb (KAB-500 Kr) it is TV guided, not Laser. So its an fire and forget weapon.

There no need to keep the target locked whit the SKhval once its released.

(same is true for the KH-29T TV guided missile.)

Rockets, the S-24 and S-25 can be used to take out hardened targets like Aircraft shelters, Bunkers etc etc.

Though, where the S-24 is primarily designed to penetrate concrete, the S-25 features an blast fragmentation warhead which makes it more useful against infantry and soft targets.

About the Kh-58U and the Kh-25MPU the numbers is a good indication of the maximum range at an altitude of about 5000 meters.

(58km for the Kh-58 and 25km for the Kh-25MPU)

Gunpods, those are quite usefull for strafing runs, this is because you can set the elevation of the barrels manually, allowing you to fly horizontal while the guns are shooting down at a column.

You change the barrel elevation whit the same keys you use for the Skhval Target size designator i believe.

And now its time for my Squad flight, hope the above is usefull to you and our others.

Thanks for your addendum, Falcon. Interesting stuff about the Autopilot and other things too... much appreciated. Totally forgot that Kab-500Kr is TV guided. AP/ENR issues can also be avoided using "Course" AP mode, but this means additional time wasted to get back on course. Your solution is probably more elegant.

The video is hosted on Twitch because it does not cost temporary drive-space and it streams/records directly to the twitch platform. I wouldn't know about vimeo, but recording, encoding... and converting videos for upload on Youtube or similar services is a serious PITA.

Unless you convert exactly to youtube's internal "dimensions" in the proper formats, YT will just do whatever it wants to adapt to their formats/dimensions. Which means: Terrible quality and surprises, plus tons of work and time wasted.

The video is recorded on true 1680x1050 at around 7/10 Quality... I can't test how that runs for downloading/viewing with low/medium bandwith connections. But its simply the best possible quality for my rather high upload rate of 10Mb/s. Jumping/skipping works for me... although lately I noticed that the position is not really visible, but seems to work nonetheless... maybe Twitch changed something.

Rarely I might get short loading times... but maybe the quality is just too much for regular connections.. and pause + preloading might be needed. (If possible at all)

Twitch has a direct Youtube upload function, might try out how that works. But still... that means max. video length of 15 minutes... which means like more than 5 or 6 parts on YT.

-> Kind of "meh". IMO -.-
