Buzpilot Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) Watching Jetstream Ep.4, I made a intercept mission to train similar mission with the F-15C. But when I turn in and close up about 3-5 miles away a Tu-142 that I put in, manage to unlock my radar by beaming, is that supposed to be possible? Mission starts about 8 min into this episode. lunaticfringe Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 The beam is the beam, and will beget a momentary "notch" effect whether you're at 50 miles or 5 miles. Your microwaves are hitting the target, and they're coming back; it's simply that the rate of closure calculation against that return immediately drops to below the threshold for being considered a target, making you lose the lock. Are you STT, search, or TWS when you are pointing at the target?

I asumed the stronger echo from radar made it harder to break, but then this means the semiactive missiles too should break easy, is that implemented in the sim? (when missile go active, and enemy has turned away) Edited March 29, 2013 by Buzpilot i5 4670 - Sabertooth Z87- GTX Titan - Dell U3011 30" - 2x8GB RAM 1800 - Samsung 840 EVO 512GB SSD - Warthog HOTAS - CH Pro pedals - TrackIR5 - Win7 64bit EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

(when missile go active, and enemy has turned away) TWS works fine, the problem with using it is that it is supposed to use predictive contacts so there is a delay in contact update. Semi active missiles don't go active, they do however miss terribly at the moment against a beaming target at all ranges, the same is true of active missiles, this is most probably down to the notch effect which EDs sims have tried to recreate with varying degrees of success for the last several hundred years. Like lunaticfringe says a beam is just an aircrafts aspect, this is regardless of range you will always be beaming, the notch is what you're talking about, that is when a contact gets rejected by the radar. Could be I remember it wrong but I imagine I should only hover the TDC to get tracking to show on Hud, atm I need to use lock, and it changes to narrow seeker on Radar, to show on Hud . Edit; Think I have to reread the manual :) Edited March 29, 2013 by Buzpilot i5 4670 - Sabertooth Z87- GTX Titan - Dell U3011 30" - 2x8GB RAM 1800 - Samsung 840 EVO 512GB SSD - Warthog HOTAS - CH Pro pedals - TrackIR5 - Win7 64bit EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE
