Pinkie_Button Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hi Anyone know how to do this? I already renamed all the TREE*.EDMs and no more trees in the countryside. Good. Now trying to do the same for the towns, help needed. Thanks!
lanmancz Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Wouldn't it be easier just to edit graphics.cfg file and set trees to 0 ? Kameni Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 And that *****ng tree on Novorosiysk!!! Damnit, who in all sanity would leave tree growing on the end of the runway?! XD It annoys me more than smoke and bugs in DCS.
Dafiew Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Wouldn't it be easier just to edit graphics.cfg file and set trees to 0 ? Tried it already not working... Simflyin' since 1985 :smartass:
Pinkie_Button Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Tried the following... TZeer Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Hi Anyone know how to do this? I already renamed all the TREE*.EDMs and no more trees in the countryside. Good. Now trying to do the same for the towns, help needed. Thanks! Just curious. Whats your goal with removing all trees?
Pinkie_Button Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Did it work?? Alas no :( Just curious. Whats your goal with removing all trees? For some reason, framerate drops noticably whenever there's plenty of them. I'd prefer maximum detail on the buildings, which look great.
TZeer Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Seems strange, as the trees are not the big FPS killers. What's your system specs?
Pinkie_Button Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 What's your system specs? I5-760 @ 2.8GHz, GA-P55-UD3R, HD5850 1Gb, 6 GB DDR3-1066, Win7 64 Everything stock clocks.
TZeer Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 The biggest FPS killer in the game, not taking bugs into the account, is the number of objects. Not 3d models, but number of objects that 3d models are made up of. For example, a new model of a tank can be made up of 6 objects. A house maybe 6-15 objects. And then sometimes there are some old 3d models that are made up of 80+ objects. Those number of objects is taxing your cpu. The more objects, the more work for your cpu. Trees are made up of a large model that looks like multiple trees. But in reality only made up by less then 10 objects. So unless you are running the highest view distance, removing trees will have limited impact. Of course if you CPU is working 100%, removing trees will help. But in general they are not the big FPS killer. Have a look here to see how number of objects affect your CPU and FPS. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491
Dafiew Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Just curious. Whats your goal with removing all trees? Main reason is to get rid of the "cover" which actually does not prevent AI units from seeing/targeting you... they can see you but you can't. Trees in the game are basically a "disadvantage" for the player since you can't hide behind them anyway, it's especially a game breaker for the Shark. EDGE will solve that problem... I HOPE :music_whistling: Simflyin' since 1985 :smartass:
