Hiya fellow rotorheads -

I've found that due to controller position creep one has to reset the trim periodically. But I just hate that strong and rapid nose pitch-up that inevitably follows, because it makes me look unprofessional ;) So is there any way to adjust the function so that it returns the controls to neutral more gradually?

S! and keep the whirly side up guys :)

I feel your pain, but i'll let you in on a little trick i use. When I have to reset trim I hit the reset button while applying forward movement to the stick, doesn't cancel the nose up completely but it does knock it down to a 3-5 degree bump instead of a 80 degree.

As far as im aware no..... shame it wasn't a little more gradual and softer as it's very abrupt...

If i ever have to do a trim reset i always push the stick forward slightly and that helps prevent the choppers nose from rearing up and slapping me in the face  !!!!.

Ive been using PeterP's "unchain rudder from trim" mod for a while now and so i don't really have to use the "trim reset" anymore.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I do push the nose down while resetting, but still thought there'd be a better way. Alas no, but we make do with what we got...

Thanks again!

Ive found that in most cases the rudder is the problem, so if you're aware of recentering your rudder, there should be little ways for you to mess up your trimmed position. You could always display the controls indicator and try to correct it with full rudder inputs, if thats your problem ;)

The only time I reset the trim is when I am on ground after landing or before takeoff. As far as I know it is absolutely not advised to reset trim during flight except emergencies - it is hazardous.

I understand your trim-reset problem, but I must remind you, that RL chopper has nothing like that. It is only a feature of this sim for those who don't have FFB joy, which is highly recomended.

I had nonFFB hotas earlier too, but rather than use a trim-reset I was using a simple hold+move-trim to the opposite direction of the current position of the virtual stick in the cockpit.

I've no problems with flying the chopper per se, and I'm also totally aware of RL helicopters having no such functionality. But what I've found, at least with my controller setup, is that sometimes after a long flight the chopper tends to overbank a LOT when I deflect the stick even the tiniest bit, and resetting the trim fixes this every time - and the cause, I'd guess, for this is what I termed "controller position creep" in my original post. So that's my personal motive for this right there mates ;)

not mastered trimming yet

Wasn't what I was talking about. Been flying this beast since v1.0 and yes, I can trim the mofo just fine, thank you ;)

It's very easy to fix you push down slightly near to where it was before you trimmed then reset trim and the nose will not push up as hard as if you had not. :smilewink:

Just the way the KA-50 fly's.

Hope you find something that works for you.

The way we have to do it now, i.e. reset and push the nose down fast and hard, is just inelegant and that's why I asked if you could tune this behaviour somehow, not because I couldn't handle it. Turns out you can't so fine, I'll just keep on doing it as always. Case closed?

As time went by, i.e., I had more flight hours in the Ka-50, there was a point in time when suddenly I realized that a transformation had taken place -- I was no longer strapped to the Blackshark -- it was now strapped to me. It's not intuitive, not easy, at times can be extremely frustrating, but you'll eventually be able to trim the helo with great finesse, as it was designed -- with or without a FFB stick (I personally don't have one). But maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem you're having --

msalama: could you post a track of this behavior and then I'll try to reproduce it, and see if I run into the same problem?

I'm misunderstanding the problem you're having ?

It's easy to reproduce, just take the Shark for a quick flight and trim it a few times and then take your hand off the joystick and press LCTR + T.

If your carrying a bit of forward speed then you'll nearly do a loop the loop :).... that's if you don't rip your rotors off first...

Since installing this mod :- http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/218201/ i have never had to use the "Trim reset"...

Thanks for your concern, but as I've tried to explain already this isn't exactly a huge problem for me. I just asked whether the trim reset function is adjustable, because I don't _like_ the rapid centering of all control axes, NOT that I can't control the chopper while resetting or anything like that. Alas, turns out you can't adjust this, so I'll just keep on pushing the nose down fast after resetting as I've always done. So as I said case closed, nothing to see here anymore ;)

Also -- an excellent, brief guide to using the trimmer

Thanks again, but you misunderstood my meaning there - I wasn't talking about trimming per se at all. I've flown the Shark since v1.0 and let me assure you, I definitely know how to trim her by now ;)

After re-reading your post carefully this time, I see that you are referring to a trim reset -- something I rarely do. My apologies for not reading more carefully!
