I can not really remember but i think the g-meter & compass was illuminated in early beta like here:

without illumination, it is not readable in the dark

or do i miss something to lighten up?

I can not really remember but i think the g-meter & compass was illuminated in early beta like here:

 

They can be turned off, i guess it is so they don't saturate your NVG. As has been mentioned, there's a switch for it in the lights section.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

You have to flick a switch to illuminate them. It is around the rest of internal lightening knobs on the bottom of the right console.
