Hi,

I am not sure what the diffrent radios and correspondenting instruments do, so I did some experiments. I want to share the results I got.

AN/ARN-82 VHF Nav

Labled: NAV-COMM

Use: Navgiating to/from VOR stations and ILS

Frequencies: 108.00 MHz to 117.95 MHz (altough you can tune in any frequency up to 126.95 MHz)

Modulation: AM

Display: Course Deviation Indicator

MIC selector: -

Note:

-The AN/ARN-82 VHF Nav can be used to listen to communication transmissions on 118.00 MHz up to 126.95 MHz, however you are not able to transmitt on this device.

-Altough the manual states otherwise, I haven't been able to get the radio magnetic indicators pointers 1 or 2 to move. Neither by tuning an ILS frequency nor by tuning into a communications transmission.

Maybe this only works with VORs, however I haven't been able to test it with them, as there aren't any in the Sim.

AN/ARC-134 VHF Radio

Labled: VHF COMM

Use: Communicate to ATC and other flights.

Frequencies: 118.00 MHz to 136.975 MHz (altough you can tune in any frequency from 116.00 MHz to 149.975 MHz)

Modulation: AM

Display: -

MIC selector: 3

Note:

- It is not possible to show the direction the recived signal comes from, on the instruments.

AN/ARC-51BX UHF Radio

Labled: UHF

Use: Communicate to other members of your flight, other flights and ATC (e.g.: FARP)

Frequencies: 255.00 MHz to 399.9 MHz (altough you can tune in any frequency from 200.00 MHz to 399.9 MHz)

Modulation: AM

Display: -

MIC selector: 2

Note:

- The manual states that the AN/ARC-51BX UHF Radio can be used to recive ADF signals. It has a selector switch postion labled "ADF", however I have neither been able to recive the audio from the NDB nor had any of the instrumentes showed movement.

AN/ARC-131 FM Radio

Labled: FM COMM

Use: Communicate to ground personell and troops, as well as recive ELT transmissions.

Frequencies: 30.00 MHz to 75.95 MHz

Modulation: FM

Display: Course Deviation Indicator

MIC selector: 1

Note:

- If the right selector switch is moved to the HOME postion, it is possible to show the direction of the signal/to the source of the signal on the CDI.

I would rather suspect such a indication of the RMI, but ok.

AN/ARN-83 ADF

Labled: ADF

Use: Navgiating to NDB

Frequencies: 190 kHz to 1750 kHz

Modulation: -

Display: Radio Magnetic Indicator

MIC selector: -

Note:

-The direction to the NDB is shown on the pointer 1 of the Radio Magnetic Indicator if it is set to "ADF".

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Radio Magnetic Indicator

It displays the current heading and the direction towards the NDB selected by the AN/ARN-83 ADF Set on the pointer 1.

The pointer 1's VOR option and the pointer 2 are currently not used as far as I can tell.

Course Deviation Indicator

It displays the deviation of the track set with the OBS knob, as well as the deviation of the glide slope (only with AN/ARN-82 VHF Nav) . It can either be fed by the AN/ARN-82 VHF Nav or the AN/ARC-131 FM Radio.

Maybe someone finds this post usefull. :smilewink:

Best regards,

Jonathan

EDIT: Typo in AN/ARC-134 VHF Radio frequency range.

Nice writeup. Hopefully I'll be getting to writing an additional manual for our radio in game. I'm still testing them out, need more mp testing before I get started.

Thank you ! Though, I think you made a mistake:

I don't know which frequency range you meant, but I have been able to contact Lochini Tower on 138.0 MHz without any problem.

great write up and thx. sadly lacking VOR's much of the useful instumentation is pretty much useless in knowing where you are in relation to beacons other than NDB or broadcasted troop/farp/vehicle frequencies. I would love some VOR's implemented if I only knew how. but much to my dismay my editing skills of such things ends at copy and paste "this to there"

Hi,

Thank you ! Though, I think you made a mistake:

Yes, should be 136.975. Thank's for pointing out.

I agree with you guys. Without VORs navigating in the Huey is a little bit difficult.
