One easy way to try out first, is to take one of each unit beginning With S-300..... ,and expand them in a Group, then you can add more launchers, the one with missiles or tubes attached :smartass:

I haven't tested how far away you can put units apart, but as long as they are in same Group, probably more than just a few hundred meters.

Got a test mission, where I tested diffferent short range SAM vehicles, and Hawk and Patriot system to make a chopper take evasive action, while I target practise.

Edit; Just tested my mission With the M-48 Shapperal, missiles really works better now, the MIM-72G fly to the chopper now (better range) and hit it between flares, maybe too good now, but nice work ED!

Ok, now I see, it was pure luck, my first two missiles hit 100% :)

i can't seem to make the SA-3 work.. as it is it is comprised with search radar truck, and then probably tracking radar(this bitch doesn't want to deploy no matter what)) and then you have your launchers..

i have put all "names" in the name box under "SAM 3" for instance.. so they should be in one group.. is that important not.. who knows.. man, how can i make it work)lol.. will try to check your test mission..

this is just wtf)) so far i can't make any of the SAMs that need "assembling" fire.. i can't make them respond to a threat no matter what..

is it the grouping, the naming of the group, the number, the distance from them, the number of launchers vs. search radar or track radar.. i really don't have the patience to test millions of combinations.. i thought this was easier.. it looks like mission impossible with a slight difference-tom cruise actually makes it in the end, i can't))

can somebody give me a working "template" how to make any of the assembling SAMs fire(S-300, Patriot, Hawk, SA-3, SA-6) .. ?

All of the relevant units need to be in the same group. I don't think the names matter.

One of the few default templates that comes with the DCS mission editor is an S-300 site. Try placing that template and check out how it's structured

yes, made it work.. geesh, it took time, problem was how to create a group.. you have to just "print out" 4 units of the same stuff, then you have your group..then within this 4 units you change them accordingly to get your right combination of units to have an effective SAM..

now, next step is .. getting the ability to pack your bags and go to another location after your kill))

Many of the larger sam sites in game are non mobile. In reality it takes something like an hour to get an S-300 site ready to be moved someplace else.

The largest range sam in game that is mobile is the SA-11 Buk followed by the SA-6 Kub

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

i think Vietnam changed location after 15-20 minutes with rigorous training.. SA-6 can re-locate after 15 minutes as well, ..its all about training..

a good documentary about Vietnam use of SAMs and tactics .. together with US tactics ..pro's and con's..

Anyway, it would still be nice to have the option to pack your bags in dCS with sam's.. problem is there is no vegetation to hide .. hopefully with EDGE engine there will be more cover for SAM's to hide in.. coupled with "decoys" to draw in the "suckers" and expose them to AAA..

I think Vietnam era theater and campaign is perfect for this, ..especially since we are getting Mig-21, have the Huey, all we need is the F-4 and we have a skeleton crew of 1960-1970 era machines.. a good SA-3 simulation is needed to complete the round..

'and expand them in a Group' could be expand here mean something different than what i meant, I'm not Perfect in English.

You put a s-300 unit on map, and below the Country index, you have Unit.

<>1 of <>1, then you 'expand' by selecting the second > to <>1 of <> 2, until you get about <>1 of <>10 for a S-300 Group, and just change the unit name , at least 5 different, and can you probably use both type of launchers. If you want more than 6 launchers, just 'expand' Group to more than 10.

A SA-3 or S-125 only have 3 different units, Search radar, tracking radar, and launchers. Power supply seem to be integrated with the search Radar.

Got a test map with working SA-3.

Edit; I see you already got it, I have to learn finishing Reading :)
