Ever tried shooting down a cruise missile? I've produced a new eight mission Su-33 campaign (based on one I did for v1.02) for FC v1.11 and in Mission 5 there are a couple of AGM-86 ALCMs that need to be destroyed before they hit your base.

Click below to find all the info and the link to download the zip file.

If you want to remove weather effects, avoid the Hose-and-Drogue Air-to-Air Refuelling in Mission 8, etc, declassify with Ctrl+SHIFT+D and enter password: Motherland.

The campaign/missions are as follows

Mission 1 Strike at InkermanBridge

Summer 1995. The Great Patriotic War has entered its 55th year and the Western Allies are threatening to overrun the Crimea. American and German forces are established along a front stretching from Jalta in the south to Dzhankoy in the north. The German 46th Infantry Division has just brought its armour ashore overnight and will undoubtedly move it up to the front to reinforce American units already in the area. The aim of Operation Blacksmith is to weaken the enemy in the southern Crimea. You are to lead the Russian Navy 279th KIAP 1st Squadron flying Su-33s from the carrier Kuznetzov which is currently steaming in the eastern Black Sea.

Day 1, 08:00 Hrs. You are about to launch from the deck of the carrier Kuznetzov to destroy the railway bridge south of Inkerman (steerpoint 4). If you follow the pre-programmed route you should stay just out of range of the known SAM sites that are defending the Sevastopol area. Commence your run-in from steerpoint 3 and attack with your S-25 rockets. Enemy troops in the vicinity have Stinger missiles so don’t spend too long below 3000 metres and fire plenty of flares.

German Air Force F-4Es may be patrolling in the target area.

Weather fine with scattered cloud at 2000 metres. Temperature 20 deg.

Tanker and AWACS not available.

Mission 2 Kh-41 Anti-shipping Strike

Day 1, 13:30 Hrs. The frigate USS Oliver H. Perry has been providing enemy forces with an anti-aircraft picket off the coast at Alupka.

All four Su-33s are on the deck of the Kuznetzov armed with Kh-41 Air-to-Surface missiles. Launch immediately and follow the pre-programmed route. Attack the enemy ship at steerpoint 2 (approximately 120 Km from the target) and recover to the carrier.

Weather fine with scattered cloud at 2000. Temperature 22 deg.

Tanker and AWACS not available.

Mission 3 Redeployment to Kyrmsk Air Base

Day 1, 18:45 Hrs. You and your wingman are to redeploy to Kyrmsk Air Base to support ground attack squadrons already operating in the area. Destroy any enemy aircraft that you encounter en route.

Weather fine, sky clear. Temperature 20 deg.

AWACS available. Tanker not available.

Mission 4 SEAD Escort

Day 2, 09:15 Hrs. You and you flight are dispersed around Kyrmsk Air Base ready to depart on a SEAD mission against a Hawk missile site that has been set up on the western outskirts of Simferopol.

Start engines and depart with the Su-25 SEAD strike aircraft and ensure that they reach the target area safely. USAF F-15Cs may be patrolling over the western Crimea.

Weather fine, sky clear. Temperature 10 deg.

AWACS available. Tanker not available.

Mission 5 AGM-86 ALCM Shoot Down

Tip: If you don’t want to fly this mission press Esc, save the result and move on to Mission 6.

Day 2, 14:00 Hrs. The Americans have started attacking our Early Warning Radars and airfield assets with AGM-86 Air Launched Cruise Missiles.

Start engines and depart along the pre-programmed route. It is unlikely that you will be able to intercept the B-52H launch aircraft but you should be able to shoot down any missiles that are heading towards Kyrmsk Air Base.

Weather fine with scattered cloud at 1500 metres. Temperature 18 deg.

Tanker and AWACS not available.

Mission 6 Battlefield Air Interdiction

Day 2, 17:10 Hrs. The German 46th Infantry Division has just commenced a major push to the south of Bahchisaraj supported by USAF A-10 aircraft. You and your wingman are to take-off immediately and search for and destroy any enemy units that you can find between the towns of Bahchisaraj (SP2) and Inkerman (SP3). Do not attack any westbound road traffic as there are many civilians fleeing the area.

Gepard mobile air defence systems are also being moved up with the 46th Infantry Division.

Weather fine with scattered cloud at 1500 metres. Temperature 18 deg.

Tanker and AWACS not available.

Mission 7 Close Air Support at Levadki

Tip: first take care of any enemy air defences so that your wingman will concentrate on the mission. If you use up all your ordnance go to Kirovskoye Air Base to rearm.

Day 3. 07:30 Hrs. American and German armour has been pinned-downed south of Simferopol. You have been given the task of destroying as many enemy vehicles and helicopters as possible around the town of Levadki (SP3).

Gepard mobile air defence systems and Stinger SAMs are known to be in the area.

Weather fine, sky clear. Temperature 10 deg.

Tanker and AWACS not available.

Mission 8 Return to the Kuznetzov

Day 3. 14:15 Hrs. Fuel supplies at Kyrmsk Air Base are running low so you and your wingman are to return to the Kuznetzov.

Start engines and depart along the pre-programmed route. You have less than 3000 Kg of fuel on board. A tanker rendezvous is planned to take place at 4000 metres 50 km south of Novorossijsk (SP2) at 14:30.

After you have refuelled intercept and destroy the F-15Cs that have been patrolling 100 – 150 Km west of Sochi (SP3).

Weather: shallow fog with scattered cloud at 300 metres. Temperature 10 deg.

AWACS available.

Thanks DPS, will check it out and report back!

p.s. Is this an actual campaign file? I can't remember the effect the campaign has on your pilot log....Will the missions log or do I have to change them into actaul single missions?

is this ok?

Posted

It's a campaign file. If I remember rightly, each time you complete a mission it is recorded in your Log Book with the campaign name rather than the mission name. I think the only way to prove that you have completed a campaign is to take a screenshot of the panel with the 'Campaign Complete' window.

The campaign is probably slightly easier than the ones that are provided with the sim, although in FC v1.11 the Hose-and-Drogue Air-to-Air Refuelling in Mission 8 will require some work.

Good luck.

The ALCM mission is very tough, because there are lots of them, and my wingman either doesn't engage them, or the radio communications dialogue disappears (the \ button doesn't work) for some strange reason, so I can't order him to "attack bandits". But this is the kind of missions I like, hard and long. Oops, that sounded soo wrong :p

Great campaign, this one at least isn't making the game crash, like some of the vanilla 1.02 campaigns.

Most of the AGM-86s are heading towards targets in the northern Crimea, so just ignore them - they are somebody else's mission!!

There are just two missiles coming your way. Switch on your radar and tilt it down a little. The AGM-86 will paint on the HDD. They fly in a dead straight line over water, won't take evasive action and have no ECM so they are easy to bag with a couple of R-27s.

I'm not sure if AWACS will announce ALCMs as a threat. Perhaps someone could try it when they reach that mission.

Very nice DPS! ;)

This is an awesome campaign!!! I flew every mission only once, and found very few problems throughout.

I will post my comments/ suggestions later.

p.s. This report was made from memory over the last 3 days. Most of it is accurate though, but excuse any error in specific details and spelling :P

Good one, bSr.L()Csta. I like the way that you have presented you mission reps.

On my keyboard, which has the separate Insert, Home, etc keys, Page Up (not the PgUp key) is mapped for simultaneous engine starts.

I’m currently working on a new campaign for the F-15C (easier A2A refueling). It is the first one that I have built from scratch using v1.11, so I have made use of a couple of the new features available in FC. This time every object will be visible (no hidden SA-16S!!) in the editor so users who want to simplify it can remove items as required. For those who fly with labels off, full weather effects, etc I have pitched the campaigns to be slightly easier than those provided with the CD/DL. I have placed the more demanding missions at the beginning of each campaign, so that players are less likely to spend hours working through the game only to find that it is impossible to finish.

My new F-15C would have benefited from some UN skins – but that’s another story.
