n3uro Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Hello. I recently installed dcs world and the free su25 module, in order to check if my system can run the engine and eventually buy other modules to play with clanmates. On the first run I realised something was wrong, i could see through the aircraft and the framerate was horrible. After googling and checking the forums, I realised the culprit was nvidia and their AWESOME optimus system. I followed the instructions in the threads (even though everything was already set up properly since I had the pleasure to deal with this kind of trouble a few times in the past), forced the driver to use the dedicated gpu and created profiles for both the launcher and the DCS.exe executable. But even then, the game runs horribly, i can see through the plane, and the nvidia gpu monitor doesn't show anything in the "games using GPU" dialog. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver, doing a clean install, and redid all the tweaks, but still, no joy. Other games are running fine. Thank you for your time, I'll also post on the nvidia boards soon because I suspect that it's mainly their fault... :)
El Hadji Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I don't know what rig you are playing on but I helped a friend with a Samsung laptop out with a similar issue. In his case it wasn't actually Optimus that was borked. I turned out that Samsung had shipped a bunch of laptops with outdated bios versions that weren't compatible with Optimusl. Updating the bios solved all issues. Updating the bios solved all issues. Hi El Hadji and thanks for your comment. To clarify, i'm playing on an Acer 5742G laptop (yeah, yeah, i know, i'm just stuck with it for the time being - though i don't have any problems with other games): -4gb ram -intel i5 M460 @2.53ghz -Nvidia GT540m graphics Now, since this happens _only_ with DCS so far, I'm quite confident that a BIOS problem (or anything hardware related) can be excluded; i saw on the changelog for 1.2.6 b4 (which is why i came back here after trying reinstalling dcs world again) that they apparently fixed something related to optimus, but for me, whatever it was that has been changed, doesn't work. Basically, even though i set the default graphics processor to the dedicated card, and created profiles for both Launcher.exe and DCS.exe, performance is still poor in game, and while running it windowed, no applications show up in the info box from nvidia which is supposed to show software that's using the dedicated card (it shows all other games correctly). I'm extremely puzzled and have ran out of options, so any help would be appreciated.
AtaliaA1 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Your Ram,GPU and your CPU are under specs. for this Simulator. I know it is an i5 but the 2.53 is suspect for sure. Is that even right come to think of it? GT540m is missing tessalation and other tech. specs. along with a suggested but not recommended 2Gigs of video Ram for this one. System Ram is 6Gigs now. GPU and CPU are definitely over minimum requirements as indicated on the website. I can agree on the ram, 4gb is under par these days, and i may think of expanding on that. Anyway, it's not related to the issue i'm reporting; i may have "subpar" performance, but the main point is that the dedicated card is not being used at all.
