loading time\game stutter

OK, I've downloaded DCS world to try it out before going for the Huey.

After installing the sim I began a quick\instant mission with the Su-25t to check frames and overall performance.

The loading time took about 5-10 minutes and when that was over, I was finally ingame which had this terrible stuttering. I assume it is not necessarily FPS because I had TIR on and I was able to look around smoothly in the cockpit but every ~30m/s it would stutter or suffer massive FPS drop. which rendered the game to pretty much unplayable-ness

 

Ive tried all kinds of solutions suggested around here but with no avail.

 

I have this old machine im running:

Windows 64 bit

Intel Core I5 750 @ 2.66ghz

Nvidia Geforce GTX 570 2GB GDDR5

4GB ram (not sure about mhz)

Corsair 650W PSU

 

So My question is if im doing something wrong or its just my PC that is not able to handle this one.

Especially at the beginning of a mission it can stutter when loading things up. Try to increase "preload radius" to max and see if it's better.

 

My stutters almost disappeared after installing 2 SSD drives instead of the old 2 HDDs. I can now for example pres F12 and jump from airfield to airfield (all 20) without any stutters... it freezes a bit when reentering the cockpit after a tour of map. I am sure with better CPU and faster RAM even that will go away (I have C2D at 3GHz)

I can not think this can be your machine my machine is even older.

 

Amd Phenom X3 720(not the extra core one) 2.8mhz

Geforce 650T oc edition 2gig ddr5 (before i was using a geforce gts 250 with the same results)

80gb hdd serial ata

and 250gb sata

logitech Extreme 3d (home extended mod)+ logitech force 3d pro

 

I'm running the game from the 250gb

My setting are on high except for water(low)

and I run it at 1600*900 single screen

And I average above 30fps most of the time only on explosions it drops the below 15fps.

my load time is longer than I'd like but it's about 2-3min on any mission

And this is with all the modules availble in DCS

 

I'd first look at your installation then at the machine.

Do you have an idea how many programs are running in the background?

 

Sometimes processes in the background use up more RAM and CPU-Power than you think. Try ending non-used programs before starting DCS.

 

Steam, Origin or Ubi-Play can cause a lot of traffic, doing updates in the background or applying patches to the gameloader. Sporadically even Mozilla, Skype & Co tend to use up a huge amount of RAM for no apparent reason.

First of all thanks for the replies and sorry for the double post.

So, I've reduced preload radius down to 0 and closed all those updaters and other worthless programs running in the background and it worked! sort of... It now stutters way less then before and I actually was able to takeoff this time. tho there are still some issues whom prevent me from finally pressing the checkout button on the those DCS modules. It takes forever for the mission to load and an eternity to exit back to the menu.

I was brave enough to Alt-tab (which froze my pc for a long while) to view my CPU usage and it looked like DCS was using 1.2GHz only when in the menu.

I remember playing lock-on way back and from what it seems the map didn't really change since in terms of graphics and such, and coming back to this really leaves me puzzled.

Anyhow, I was looking to replace my machine with a notebook and was wondering how would this dell would handle the load. and if not this maybe a different one can.

If it's just a micropause you can also try to disable Vertical Sync in your graphics driver.

 

You should also disable tree shadows. You probably don't even notice the difference, but FPS in general will increase. I also found that NVidia renders shadows much different from AMD. With 2 largely identical cards AMD was much less slowed down by shadow-settings (not only in DCS).

 

 

In general I don't recommend Notebooks for gaming. They are more fragile, more expensive and even powerbooks suffer from bad cooling. Of course, if you want to be mobile, there's no way around a Notebook.
