Not to revive an old thread, but after watching GA's moving, I thought of something.

What does the US have to replace the AIM-54? Is there another platform capable to fire the missle?

Given its range, its seems odd they would get rid of the long legs it has.

The Phoenix hasn't been built for years - cracks are developing in the motors. They're just getting too old.

Think I remember seeing something saying the AIM-120D will give a significant increase in range - if all else fails, they can buy the Meteor from Yurp.

Just for the record, Iraq during the first Gulf War had the largest, most complex, most integrated air defence umbrella ever seen.

Yeah - did them a lot of good, didn't it? ;)

Ahem, who was the supplier of the air defense system for Iraq? And on who's side was it during the Gulf War? :P

France (at least the integrated system), and they were in the coalition against Iraq.

called "Kari", not a big effort... it's just IRAK (french for Iraq) spelled inverted...

just a short story ... I've read that French and other coalition Mirages were not allowed to fly over Iraq for the fear of friendly fire accidents, since Iraqis used mirages too
