I was looking how I am going to build a-10c simpit, how I could build parts which have mechanical dials like with the VHF radio panel.

We have all seen allot of electronic solutions to this problem. but if you are not good with electronics there is not a great deal of novice instruction into making them.

So I was looking at if it is possible to attach some type of dial to the rotary encoder to make a dial as the read out for the VHF radio.

Interested to know what people think of this iead

Hi HornetUK,

Linden has done it. But you need to remember that the rotary encoders needs to be manually alligned before starting the game and that once in a while the game may not see the turning of the rotary encoders thus the mechanical dials will be misaligned:

Hi Hornet

An option when using mechanical dials whould be to have a prepped script that when activated sets the freq to a preset value, I.e adjust dials as needed and write the preassigned freq to the sim triggerd by an optional button or likewise to sync'em to the sim (havn't tried it out though but it should work)

7 Segments are more generic and was a 'bit' faster to implement then the mechanical. It's a lot of adjustments to make and also to consider the opening on the base and lightpanel, harder to get it visible and with correct detents depending on the encoder. Using dials as Linden do have a more genuin flavour though :-)

edit: The bonus (besides better looking) would be the savings in output port on your interface

thanks for that chaps, yes Hans I am aware that I would have to reset the dial every time before starting the simpit hay it is a small price for a simple soloution
