geneb Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 All the instruments that I want to use synchros on are for the most part Malwin simulator instruments. I like Mike's design, but unless I want to re-draw the whole board, I get to be obscenely over-charged by ExpressPCB to have them make the boards. I've found a source of both 26V and 115V static inverters - I'm just waiting to find out how much they'll cost me. :) tnx. g. Proud owner of 80-0007. http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of her kind.
brydling Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) Simulator intstruments are perfect, then you have a good chance it will work without too much struggle. Do you know if they have electronics built-in or do they just consist of a synchro control transformer and an AC-motor for each axis? If the inverters are too expensive I'm sure you can build your own on a breadboard. I don't think there are many parts involved. geneb Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 As far as I know they've got a receiver and a resolver for each axis. g. Proud owner of 80-0007. http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of her kind.
brydling Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 That sounds odd. If you can get your hands on some technical documentation or open them and take some photos of the components inside I'm sure we can figure out how to bring them to life :) Digital-to-Synchro converter for interfacing real aircraft instruments - Thread Check out my High Input Count Joystick Controller for cockpit builders, with support for 248 switches, 2 POV hats and 13 analog axes. geneb Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Perfectly standard from my standpoint. I've got the full pinout for the ADI, so when I reach that point, I'm good to go. g. Proud owner of 80-0007. http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of her kind.
brydling Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) The ADI should be straightforward as you say :-) What I think you should worry most about is the standby attitude indicator. Why is there a synchro and a resolver for each axis? I think that is very odd since a synchro and a resolver is basically the same thing with a different number of phases. Don't you mean a synchro and a 2-phase AC-motor? geneb Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I haven't opened it up - I was just making an assumption based on other devices of similar function that I've worked with in the past. g. Proud owner of 80-0007. http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of her kind.
brydling Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Ok. geneb Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Will do. Right now I'm in the middle of the right side console wiring job. Once the side console wiring harnesses are complete, I'll worry about the instrument panel. :) g. Proud owner of 80-0007. http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of her kind.
Nigel VP Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Hey brydling! please check PM's mate. Thanks Nigel
Gadroc Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Finally got my boards hooked up and running my ARU/2B ADI. Worked well first time! The one question I have is when I set the angle to 0 it is actually -60. This is trivial to offset in software, but does it mean I have something wired wrong? The Milspec on my ADI lists the input to the syncros as x, y and z not s1, s2 and s3. I just wired s1-x, s2-y and s3-z. Would rotating those change anything?
brydling Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 That's great news! :) By changing the position of the wires you can move both the zero position and the rotation direction. Many indicators don't actually have the electrical zero at the visual zero position, so an offset will always be needed in software for these. But in Helios it is possible to make whatever mathematical manipulation of the values you want by using Lua if I have understood correctly? Gadroc Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Correct and I've already accounted for it there. I'll need to check the mil spec at where the electrical zero is to see if I've wited properly.
Nigel VP Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Hello Niclas Check your spam folder again, I sent a few emails. Regards Nigel
Nigel VP Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Niclas I am ready to test this with the F-16 ADI. I dont need code, just the cards. Can I order some from you? Regards Nigel
Deadman Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Hi Nigel last I heard from him was he was not making any more cards and a friend would start that was over 6 months a go have not heard of any new cards being .made. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
