I am trying to learn to land the F-15C. Finding the end of the runway is the first issue. Here are some questions.

When I turn on ILSN mode the letters CSET flash in the bottom right side of the HUD for a few seconds. What does this mean? I see nothing in the documentation about this. I never see GSUP or GDWN.

I never see the localizer bar. I see the velocity vector and the gun cross and the assigned heading indicators, but never the localizer bar.

I have tried both Game and non-game flight mode and neither seem to affect this. I am flying in non-game avionics mode.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

-Added CSET display on HUD - is displayed for the first 10 seconds after ILS mode selection.

FC3 F15 has ILS HUD director cross for ILS ... same as Wypt steering cross. The old (incorrct steering cross/bars are gone).

You track this with the velocity vector to track the ILS Glide slope and localizer

F-15C ISLN Mode

Paganus,

Thanks for your reply. I looked at the link for my CSET question. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me what it means or what it's function is. Do you know what CSET means or what it's function is?

As to the localizer bars, it appears the manual needs to be corrected to reflect that they are not available in the F-15C.

You can't use it as in interact with it. All you can do is look at it. Its safe to assume you can just ignore the CSET prompt because of this due to the limited fidelity of FC jets. The only time you'll want/need to bother with ILS approaches is in crazy weather. I suppose if you're really new to landing its helpful for setting up a proper glide path, but the F-15 is quite easy to land if you get your speed right.

Thanks for the help. Time to work on the HSI, never used that yet.

F-15 Landing

What I'm getting from your comments is to do visual landings. Thanks. I wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing. Hopefully, I can get a little better at landing at the right airfield.

Because I never had to flying the Russian planes, until I started spending time studying and learning the F-15C HSI I would have agreed with you both. But after several hours of working with the HSI I now can get myself to an ILSN [if available] intercept point and then using the velocity vector on the HUD I fly tight with the steering index to a landing. This works well...I didn't say easy:thumbup:
