...but I'll ask anyways. :)

Hello all

I've been a avaid Microsoft Flight Simulator person for years. The latest was building an expensive i7 980X 6 core box and spending years building the FSX program up but now I find that I am looking for something in flight with a lot more action. After looking at ROF and Warbirds III, Lockon seems to be the one that has caught my interest. However, after looking through all the different software packages that are available I'm now confused. So maybe someone can be kind enough to tell me which titles I should be purchasing and in which order they should be installed to bring Lockon up to present day standards. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks

Wolf

For Lockon (now called Flaming Cliffs), you will need a copy of LockOn Modern Air Combat (purchasable from Amazon and other sources) installed on your system (only for legal/licensing reasons) somewhere. Then you will need to install the free environment which is DCS World from here.

Now purchase the Flaming Cliffs 3 module for DCS World from the e-shop and install the module from the download link here.

NOTE: LockOn Modern Air Combat does not need to be installed for DCS World to work (you can fly the Su-25T), it just needs to be installed prior to the installation of Flaming Cliffs 3. You can even remove LockOn after FC3 is installed but you would still need it handy in the event that a reinstall of Flaming Cliffs is needed.

EDIT: Btw, Welcome to the forum! :)

DCS World is free, includes the Su-25T for free. And you can download anytime to try it out at http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/dcs_world/

Once you've gotten used to it and checked it out, if you want to access other airplanes this is what you'll need.

A-10C, BlackShark 2, Huey, Mi-8, P-51 are added modules, that require NO pre-installed software. These are also very well simulated and very detailed.

Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) has : F-15, A-10A (not the C, but A model), Su-25A, Su27. Su33, and three variations of MiG-29. This does require owning Lock On to be installed like cichlidfan said above. These are partially simulated...like the "easy mode" type of aircraft for casual simmers.

The Su-25A and A-10A from Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) are sold separately. But I think it is more practical to just buy FC3.

Hope this cleared things up in detail.

To be more precisely:

There is the original Lock On (with patches available up to 1.12b) and there is Flaming Cliffs , Flaming Cliffs 2 and Flaming Cliffs 3.

The original old Lock On still is required to install Flaming Cliffs versions. DCS modules don't require Lock On to be installed.

Flaming Cliffs 3 is online compatible with other DCS user but then requires the free DCS World to be installed, too.
