BBQ Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 Yes indeed do read those links and to clarify my original post was meant for pilots used to flying traditional helos like the huey and the MI 8 and in no way would I suggest flying in a mission without using the autopilot channels as in as I agree that it should be flown as it was designed.
159th_Falcon Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) This is one of the truest statements on the Forum. Do bother, it's a very good introduction the Ka-50 trimming system, and to using the AP to fly the aircraft correctly. And your reason for making this bald statement is ? That i do very well at nitpicking and the AP and SAS system buttons/controls are wrongly named. For example, the famous blue buttons, there called AP in his explanation. Even though there part of the SAS. The fact that the AP needs those systems to function itself doesn't make them AP buttons/controls. ***EDIT*** Try this post from IvanK, if i remember right this one IS correct, and MUCH more detailed; http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36246 Could be confusing it whit a different post though. GunfighterSIX Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Falcon you are 100% correct, those systems are there, you need to learn how to use them and fly with them. Leave SAS on! The systems are designed to take work load of the pilot so he can use the aircraft for what it is designed for, killing stuff. Using Flight director or route mode or whatever is up to the user, but leave the SAS on. Is it good to practice with it off ever once in a while? yes, but learning to fly the helicopter with that stuff off is stupid. I didn't learn to fly a uh-60 with the boost, SAS and AFCS off every flight or maneuver, that would be retarded. Once you have the aircraft figured out and you are comfortable, then start advance your skills and challenging your self. 1 HHC, 229th AHB, 1st Cav Div http://1stcavdiv.conceptbb.com/

I think, it is correct to name those blue buttons as AP buttons - because they provide stability augmentation (oscillations damping - SAS) as well as angular stabilization in pitch, yaw and roll axes (basic AP functions). IvanK also designates them as AP buttons.
