Hoggorm Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 As the topic sais: Is it possible to automatically look at (incoming) missiles using a specific key? I do not own any TrackIR and find it both time-consuming and unrealistic to find missiles using the top hat on my joystick... Thank you
Nate--IRL-- Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Try Right Alt and . on the numpad. It is under View - Padlock in the options. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Hoggorm Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Hmm... I tried the command "Threat missile padlock" (RShift + .) and fired up a mission where a SA-11 fires at me. The view did not change to the incoming missile however... I've also activated the Padlock options in the realism settings. Any ideas why it is not working?
Nate--IRL-- Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Hmmm - the key might be different depending on the aircraft you are in, It is RALT and . for me in the A-10C Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Hoggorm Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Ok, I'll test a little more. I found it in A-10C Sim. I understand it correctly that when I press the key for "Threat missile padlock" my view is shifted towards the missile while in the cockpit? Or should it be the key for "All missiles padlock"?
Nate--IRL-- Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I think the missile must be in the field of view first. if you aren't looking in it's direction it wont work. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Serp Supreme Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Are you sure you're hitting the NUMPAD period, not the normal period? Hoggorm Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 I think the missile must be in the field of view first. if you aren't looking in it's direction it wont work. Nate Ok. I tried again now and nothing happens. I saw the missile beeing launched, but neither pressing the key for "Threat missile padlock" nor "All missiles padlock" focused the view at the missile. Are you sure you're hitting the NUMPAD period, not the normal period? The Norwegian keyboard does not have a period on the numpad, only a comma. I have however tried to press the keys while in the options and the correct name ("Threat missile padlock" and "All missiles padlock") lights up in the same way as if I had pressed TMS up for example.

Hoggorm Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 What are you flying? I'm flying the A-10C using this mission where I start in the air (just to test the missile padlock): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16066714/Batumi%20-%20Tbilisi%20Radar%20Runner%20-%202P%20-%20AB.miz cheating Well, it may be but still I see you have a TrackIR. With that I would suspect it is far easier to move your head, spot the missile and not the least keep it in your sight while maneuvering the aircraft to avoid. Unfortunately I do not own a TrackIR, so I have to use my joystick's top hat to first find the missile. That actually takes quite a lot of time, just to move your head, and then it is simply impossible to keep it in my sigh while maneuvering. It is basically unrealistically difficult. Although I'd prefer a TrackIR, I would rather use a padlock view than using my joystick's top hat.
Nate--IRL-- Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Works just fine here. I note the missile must be within 10KM for the padlock to Lock. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Hoggorm Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Works just fine here. I note the missile must be within 10KM for the padlock to Lock. Nate I see. Three more questions for you then if I may :) 1 - You had to have the missile in view before pressing the key? 2 - Was it the key for "Threat missile padlock" or "All missiles padlock" you used? 3 - Do you have to hold the key combination down to keep the view on the missile? I'll be away until Saturday, so I won't be able to investigate further until then. Hopefully I'll get it to work eventually.
Nate--IRL-- Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 1 - Yes 2 - RALT and Numpad . 3 - No - press again to unlock padlock I think. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
