Nealius Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I just got a set of rudder pedals and I am finding the Mustang to be nearly uncontrollable on takeoff/landing. The plane will always veer to the right and any attempt to add left rudder ends up in my spinning 90* left and flipping over, or having to dance left-right-left and then flipping over. The rudder is so sensitive that adding 1cm of rudder is all I need for a coordinated turn. What's the best way to tone down the sensitivity so that I need something more like 4cm of movement for a coordinated turn? Edited January 3, 2014 by Nealius
msalama Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) Use curves. I've no access to my sim computer just now so cannot walk you through the process, but you can set them in the game options regardless. HTH :) EDIT: Ach, so you know about the curves already it seems! Well FWIW (and IIRC) I use a setting of curves 15 / deadzone 7 with my pedals and have no problems with controlling the Stang, apart from maybe being a bit rusty ATM since I haven't flown it in ages... Devrim Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Yes almost same here. I use 5 ~ 8 deadzone and 10 ~ 15 curve for rudder pedal. Very smooth and controllable. Nealius Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Ok, I added a deadzone of 8 and a curve of 15, but I am still having problems. Before the updates/getting rudder pedals I used to set rudder trim to 6* right on takeoff and I could takeoff straight down the center line of the runway. Now when I add 6* right trim the plane veers to the right on takeoff and the smallest amount of left rudder results in crashing. With 5* right trim the plane veers to the left and the smallest amount of right rudder results in crashing. This is starting to piss me off.
msalama Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Sorry, should've said this immediately, but don't use a large deadzone unless you absolutely have to, i.e. if there's too much slack / spiking / imprecision around the middle. Because if you do, you'll also compress your total deflection range into an even smaller physical space / throw than what's really available, so only use as small a DZ as you can get away with. Or preferably none if at all possible! Second, try a curve of 20 or so and see if that helps. If not however then that's me stumped I'm afraid, but maybe someone else still has trick or 2 up their sleeves... anyone? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
Nealius Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 I'll try a higher curve and a lower deadzone. I managed to do a 3-point takeoff after I figured out that for 5* right rudder trimming I need to have a manifold pressure of 45. I also managed a really nice 3-point landing after that, but as soon as I was on the ground the plane began to veer to the left. I added right rudder and it suddenly shot off to the right, then adding left rudder to correct I went 90* left and flipped over. Again.
Nealius Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Ok, I tried 0 deadzone and a curve of about 22. Things are a bit better but I am still uncontrollable upon landing. When I land I start to yaw to the right, but when I add left rudder I get no response. When I stop adding left rudder the plane starts to yaw to the left, so I add right rudder with no response. After I stop adding right rudder my plane suddenly yaws 180* to the right. Attaching a track file in the hopes that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Devrim Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 By the way Nealius; You sure about there's no any assignment except JOY_RZ in Rudder column, right? msalama Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Oh yeah, and as Devrim said check for double bindings as well because they cause all kinds of grief  Will check the track sometime during the weekend when I've got more time... Nealius Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 By the way Nealius; You sure about there's no any assignment except JOY_RZ in Rudder column, right? The only other assignments in the rudder column are for toe breaks, and those are most definitely not causing any issues. If they were, I wouldn't have been able to take off.
