Pajeezy Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 With the F-15C, whenever I follow my waypoints, and eventually RTB, it will eventually switch to the ILS by itself. I follow the cross carefully, and a lot of the time it just leads me on a zig zag-like pattern to eventually fly over the airfield from the side :/ Is this because I'm not far enough out before entering ILS? How does everyone else go about lining up? Should I talk to ATC and just listen to them when I choose "inbound"? Thanks
Rongor Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 ILS doesn't work outside a reception cone with the extended runway centerline in it's middle. The ATC will guide you to an appropriate position within this cone. Since the FC systems are not really simulating the use of "navigational" radios well, your topic may be placed in the Flaming Cliffs subforum better.
Prelude2189 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) No ILS Airport ID Numbers? Probably a stupid question but I cant find an answer anywhere. When in Nav mode In the F-15 and I hit all nav points and want to RTB I go to ILS mode and try and find the Airfield Id numbers there are none so I have to guess by range which one is home. Am I missing something? Edited January 12, 2014 by Prelude2189
aaron886 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 The localizer (component of the ILS responsible for lateral navigation) has a limited area of usability. In real life, it's something like this: (Can't say if DCS has identical dimensions) The glideslope extends to approximately ten miles and spans approximately 1.4 degrees elevation. Your task is to intercept the glideslope from below at an altitude of around 2,500 feet above ground level. If you'd like to approximate a real world ILS approach, simultaneously intercept the localizer and arrive at this altitude when you are about 10 miles from the airfield. If you aren't sure how to read the F-15's HSI in FC3, I believe the manual does explain it in fair detail. If there's a catalog of ID numbers, it's there. If you are looking for more information about approximating real-world instrument procedures, feel free to ask. Good luck.
Rongor Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 You will find ID numbers in \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Doc\Charts\DCS_VAD_Charts_FC3.pdf
