Gerg Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Hi there, i was wondering what would have caused an engine to explode on takeoff? I checked the log and although it registered 2 Migs firing R-27R a couple of seconds before hand, there was no target displayed and i recieved no indication of impacts, im pretty sure the planes were miles away as i had just started the sim on the runway. The planes AN/ALE left wing Container and AN/AAR sensor left failed yet the right engine caught fire and lost thrust which barrel rolled me into a dish on the verge of the strip. I have birds set to 100% but thought it would still register on the log if i hoovered one up? Thanks for look.

dumgrunt Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Yeah bird strike, if it happen early enough you can abort the takeoff, if have just lifted, keep your airspeed in check, jettison stores if required, circuit and land. Happened to me the other day when I was doing the runner from a fulcrum. It sounds like you actually stalled the wing, the hog dOesnt have the thrust to "barrel" you over if you loose an engine. On that look forward to dealing with some decent asymmetric thrust on the f-15 when the afm comes out. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Gerg Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Haha yea, i probably could have caught it but was 1st shot of new stick and rudder was far too sensitive. It would have been ok if it happened 3m shorter or further down the runway but it had to happen at about the only area you couldnt veer off course without hitting something. I take it the game simulates a flock of birds vs just 1 hit since i got damage on 2 sides of aircraft? Also how are birds simulated throughout the world? Random points floating around in airspace that have a chance of causing damage when you hit them? Or just randomly you have a failure that could be caused by a bird?
cichlidfan Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 The latter, sort of. Set it to zero and forget about it as it is not terribly realistic. dumgrunt Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 ^ i reckon that fellow who landed an A320 in the hudson might disagree with you on that one :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Until the failures include possibilities of the bird striking something other than the engine, it is not very realistic.
