This question relates more to 1.2.7...

There has been ample discussion about the SA8 and the ARM exploding off the rail "bug" in other threads. I'm not sure if it's a bug- some of the guys who are more familiar with the SU25T stated that the exploding off the rail occurs when the aircraft fires on a radar that is not locked onto it. This makes sense to me- though may not be the intention.

In running my Full Throttle Stress Test Mission one of the things I wanted to highlight and give opportunity for was the SU25Ts working on radars.

To do so, I put a few SA8 sites around in red state but a hold fire order. This whole time I thought things were working fine but I recently found out that the ARM missiles have been detonating off the rails again. I'm assuming it's because they won't lock on to the aircraft. (The guy reporting knows the drill).

Talking about red state in the thread nearby, I noticed that the red state is an "Enemy Detected" posture. Is it supposed to ACTUALLY detect an enemy or is it doing so while blindfolded to "look" like it is ready to fire while actually only "pretending."

Does the "hold fire" interfere with the "Red State?" Will hold fire prevent a unit from locking it up because the AI is scripted to launch at a certain interval from achieving a lock?

I have a few other options- one is switching the red state to "return fire." I think this may be the next level of preparedness?

I don't know how much of it is simply due to changes in sam/ARM behavior in 1.2.7 or if its an ugly bug where ARMs have a chance of exploding for clients. If unsure always try it out in singleplayer.

ROE and Alarm state are completely separate, but they do impact one another.

Alarm state set to auto basically means that AI will actively look for targets if targets are near. In effect it is the good old 'cheating all seeing eye" of the AI. This is not entirely the case because AI still need to detect a target with whatever sensors it has on board to actually engage said target. Alarm state red simply forces the AI to search regardless if anything is near. In the case of sams, this means emitting radar. If on auto and no targets are near the radar will typically shut down.

ROE depends on what the alarm state is. If alarm state is green the AI pretty much won't react to anything regardless of ROE. If the alarm state is Red, the 3 ROE settings will have different results.

ROE Hold fire will prevent AI from actively tracking and attempting to engage a target, but will still be searching or be aware a target exists. It will never "aim" at or lock targets.

ROE Return Fire: Same as hold fire but will switch to fire at will if shot at.

ROE Fire At Will: AI will actively track and attempt to shoot at detected targets.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
